My first hunt
    #1488412 - 04/24/03 05:59 AM (14 years, 1 month ago)

I went on my first hunt today, wondering if anyone can name these inactives I came across today (just curious).

I was looking for the two species that are to be found in my location: mainly cubensis, and to a lesser degree baeocystis.

Location: Near Atlanta, GA. Hilly cow pasture. Grass was 4-6 inches high.

Time: 630am

Weather: It had rained a couple days ago, the ground was still fairly damp/wet. It has been a bit chilly in the past couple of days, and I doubted I would see much.

The first several minutes I didn't see any mushrooms; I had wondered if the cows eat fungicide treated feed or the pasture had been treated. I looked all over the gentle hills, but tended to not cover much on the tops of the hills, as I could easily be sighted. I also checked the area where hay had been dropped off to feed the cows.

interesting finds you've got there Kev. The 1st mush in the pic- I always find those here in TX, they are everywhere.

As for the other pics- Maybe you have some Antillarum in there? Not quite sure but its possible I guess.

The first one looks like Coprinus comatus.

The second one looks like Coprinus micaceus.

The third one looks like Coprinus plicatilis.

Keep it up! At the rate you're going you should have the genus Coprinus nailed in just a couple more weeks.

Happy mushrooming!

Oh great!!! :frown:  HAHA

Coprinus comatus - probably so - wish I had gotten a sharper picture, but I had forgotten to charge my battery, I didn't take the time to review this shot b/c of my need to conserve power.

Coprinus micaceus - I didn't get a good enough picture, looking at examples on the web, I can't tell myself even though I saw it firsthand.

Coprinus plicatilis - EXACTLY! You hit the nail on the head (or "hit the mushroom on the cap"?)!!! I looked up examples and descriptions and they matched up perfectly.

Hey thanks for the ID!!!!
