Fermented jars?

My friend was putting some BRF cakes in a zip bag to crumble and case.

After adding a cake to the bag, he smelled funk coming from the jar he just took from. It smelled fermented.

There was a large amount of other cakes in there already, so he cased it anyway.

What should he do?

If it smells bad, chuck it out.
Not worth your health...

You say he already cased it? Ack, thats bad... he may be spreading the contamination from that one jar.

My advice is to chuck it out. You can let it grow and see what happens, but I'm not sure you'll be pleased with the results...

Once things smell funky, chuck it out!

You can't do a thing. That bad cake will probably spread the contamination to the whole stuff. You can give it time and see what it happens but if you ever smell a bad odor toss it all.

The change in environment, from a jar to a casing, might be enough to kill off the yeast/contamination, but it would be much wiser to toss everything and start fresh. Time will tell... if/when it does go bad, be very careful when tossing the casing. Some yeasts will make you sick enough that you will wish you were dead.
