Convection Toaster Oven for Drying Fruits

Anyone use a convection toaster oven to dry their fruits? I just remembered I have THIS sitting at my parents house while I was living in a dorm at college this past year. I can't remember what the minimum temp on the thing is tho, I havent seen it in about a year. I'm guessing its around 150. Would that be too hot for drying them?

Depends on how low it really can turn down. I haven't seen many that get below 165 though tbh. I personally found a dehydrator at a yard sale for $3. Went home plugged it in and it worked like a charm, could probably fit around 400-600 wet grams on it.

I've found fast circulating air (i.e. from a fan) to be superior to heat.
Then use a desiccant to get them crispy.

Oxidization is what destroys psilocybin though in your mushrooms so while you may find that to be superior my dehydrator gets the job done in 2-5 hours depending on mushroom size and loses less potency than yours.

I'm not convinced that blowing air on them will cause rapid oxidization of the molecule. After all, oxidization is a slow process and you are not increasing the concentration of oxygen. I don't think a piece of iron will rust faster if you blow air on it.
Either way, I was trying to say that if you had a choice between the two, air is superior to heat.
But at the end of the day, your dehydrator is the best thing to have.

Comparing a piece of iron to a piece of fruit is kind of funny...then directly after that you contradicted yourself.

You mentioned oxidation (of a molecule), and I mentioned oxidation (rust). It is the exact same chemical process.
I was suggesting a fan is better than an oven, but a dehydrator is best. How is that a contradiction?

Maybe you should of made a tier list to clarify things. Seemed as though you were boasting a fan to be better than a dehydrator to me.
dehydrator --- > fans/decissant --- > your cabinet on a plate --- > cooking them in an oven toaster
Also I'm still pretty damn sure fans are destroying your psilocybin at a much greater rate than a dehydrator will.

Your dehydrator doesn't have a fan?

Just 5 hours for the biggest of your fruits?

I was also wondering about the toaster ovens. Mine is a convection toaster oven with a specific dehydrator setting on it that is said to work well with fruits/veggies. Would it work for shrooms too?

Chances are it will, typically if it doesn't feel like a heat that will bother your hand being in the area your mushrooms will like it as well. In my experience if stuff gets hotter than this it worries me.

No it doesn't have a fan and yes to 5 hours for my biggest fruits. Even if I were doing bulk and had fruits twice the size of my pf tek cakes they'd probably only take about 8-10 hours.
It's an old school dehydrator but a lot of people around here love to use them and recommend them.
http://s3.amazonaws.com/toddblog/20080814_dehydrator This is a newer one but mine is the essentially the same thing, elevated trays with adjustable lid for allowing less or more heat out. Mine actually has one setting...plug it in. I love the damn thing and can't wait to fill it up completely and get a picture of it.
It just has an insulated metal coil at the bottom that puts out some ok heat but nothing too hot.
