Are these to small/big?
    #1486730 - 04/23/03 05:47 PM (15 years, 2 days ago)

I just got back from buying my friend some tupperware for casing. They were about 12x8 inches each. Is this too small? What's the ideal size? Thanks!

They will work, just remember THIS regarding Depth.

With Tupperware, you may need to block light from hitting the substrate on the side, with some tape, to avoid stimulating fruits on the side (versus top)

light will still travel through the clear plastic and create growth on the sides and undersides. IMHO your best bet would be to get a metal cooking pan (not aluminum since they will fall apart)

You are right about the light...... because of the thickness of the clear plastic, some light may still get to the sides of the substrate, even if the Tupperware is taped outside. A friend experienced this and ended up removing the casings from the Tupperware & treating them like cakes.

Yea I know all about that shit, and about the depth, it's deffinitly 5 inches at least, and that's perfect. Because it's clear, I'm just going to wrap electrical tape around all the sides/bottom, I was just worried about the size. Thanks a lot guys!

12 X 8 should yield well, not too small.

Thanks, pics can be deciving when you've never grown before. When I was just learning about this stuff awhile ago, and I looked at pics of PF cakes, I used to think they were huge, like 8 inches in hight. Obviously I know now, but a lot of times I seem to think things are bigger then they actually are.
