Issues with Network Connections
    #14864688 - 08/02/11 10:31 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

So, I have a network at home using a router that has been reflashed with DD-WRT. I have 4 devices that connect to the router, 2 wireless laptops(1 WinXP Home and Windows 7, a wired NAS(Linux), and a wired desktop(WinXP). I have the proper permissions set to share files over my network. My WinXP laptop has worked pretty much up until a few minutes ago. I was able to get my new Win7 computer to see the networked computers to see the shared drives for a few weeks and then it just stopped working.

So, I just try to go to 'My Network' places and it used to list all the shared folders and drives, and then I could view my files on my laptops from the wired NAS and wired desktop. Now, it doesn't work through network places. Neither laptop can recognize any shared drives, but I can type in the IP address in explorer(by manually typing IE. \\192.168.1.103) and view everything without an issue. Any way to fix this?

Take a look in your Windows 7 event log for network related errors and post what you find. If it just started happening out of the blue you'll probably need some additional information to debug the problem.

A few things to check...

Is the router handing out a bogus WINS server address via DHCP?  If so, that could cause issues.  Are all of the machines in the same work group?  Are all of the machines on the same subnet?  Do all of the machines have the same administrator password?  Is NetBIOS over TCPIP enabled on all machines?  Are you using a broken Dynamic DNS (DDNS) server?
