Odd Drying Problem

My imaginary friend has a potential problem with his drying technique...
Two days ago he picked a nice healthy shroom off of his cake, and placed it in a plastic container with the top and bottom cut off, and covered with cheesecloth for air flow....
Then he taped the container on top of his air purifier's air output (very strong air current), and waited 2 days....
After two days, the shroom had dried considerably, but here's the catch. Instead of being cracker dry, it's realy really soft, and has turned blue and green, but in a weird ultra shiny hue (and wrinkly as hell)??? Now this seems to me like it could be a sign of rotting, but the shroom was healthy when placed on the fan/air purifier asap....
Now to try and get it cracker dry, the guy has cut up the shroom in little pieces to possibly get rid of any internal moisture....
Is this normal? Using this same method, this guy dried his first shroom with no problems, but the second and third seem to yield this odd soft stuff....
With more on the way, this guy wants to figure things out asap so he can change anything he's doing wrong....

the shiney/blue/grn texture is normal, you bruised or oxidized some of the active chems during drying. If you want to get to cracker dry, in order to really measure dose. My suggestion is dessicant, the best i've found is the fresh step CRYSTALS kitty litter. It's pure silica gel.

Leave them drying longer or get a dess. chamber and save the electricty. (Make sure it's air tight though) My dawg has never had a problem with getting them cracker dry using a chamber, and turning them every other day.

Well, he doesn't care about saving electricity since he's using the purifier for the whole house anyways...
The blueing I know is usual... it's the way it wrinkled and gets ultra shiny and soft that has him worried..

keep on drying, it's normal. That shiny look is one of the coolest part about half dried shrooms, looks opaline.

Ur friend can also use damp rid (CaCO3) located in any hardware store next to the cleaners (usually). Just make sure the mushies dont touch the dessicant. OR you can combine this with your normal method

Well, my friend has looked in painting sections and painting stores for dissecant, and haven't found a thing. Apparently it was mostly used in the days of oil based painting days...
And usually, teenage home depot clerks don't have a clue what a dissecant is, so I've kinda given up on that one....
Plus it's apparently slower than fan drying then no?

Im sure if you ask for Damp Rid by name they will no what it is, and i didnt find it by the paints i found it by the cleaners. A relative that i used to know told me that he used both fan and damp rid to dry them out.

Look for sidewalk "Ice Melt" it's alot cheaper than damp rid and works the same. You can also get a hell of a deal on it now.

Fan for a couple days till quite dry, then use desiccant for final drying. Don't touch fruit to desiccant.
Drying Tek
Home Depot carries DampRid in their Paint Dept. Comes as granules in a container that looks just like a cardboard quart milk carton.

Now, among other things, that's what I just freakin' HATE about Home Depot. No consistent inventory planning across stores. The one near me ALWAYS has it.

Okay, for anyone who CAN'T find Dessicant in hardware stores, I have found the ultimate answer....
I went to White Rose, basically the "Home Depot" of gardening, and went to the flower drying section.... Picked up a kilo of silica gel, with blue indicators..
I wrapped up the silica gel in a coffee filter, and put it in the bottom half of my dual chanber drying thingy =)

Well, I was at the gardening store.... It was there, I needed it, it has humidity indicators to show when it needs to be replaced, and it can be re-used over and over again =)
It was 30$ for a kilo, but considering you can re-use it to no end, it's not that expensive long-term
