Awesome, we can start off with some simple sketches and outlines. Just post whatever work you may do here for now. I'll be re-reading the entire series. I can model up some quick renders to make us look legit.

We have to get a basic outline of what we'd like out of it first. You guys thinking FTP?

There's a lot of Harry Potter fans out there that would be willing to pay monthly for a decent Harry Potter RPG... I'm thinkin' a low monthly fee of $10.

Sounds good. We also need to make sure someone doesn't steal our license. If we get some stuff up, I'll contact a lawyer about liscensing. Maybe even JK Rowling herself. I have a feeling EA might have all of the rights from their shitty movie spinoff games though. I guess we can just cross that bridge when we get to it.

We will most likely need to change the title a bit... Instead of having "Harry Potter" in the title we need something a bit more original. I'm thinking something along the lines of, "Hogwarts, A History". It's named after a book in the harry potter world that they talk about a few times. Here's the wiki if you want to learn more. I don't think it has any copyright associated with it. http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Hogwarts,_A_History

But what about the harry potter themes? I really think we can go all the way with movie characters, voices, etc. If we make a good enough proposal, a developer may cut us a deal.

The name Hogwarts will definitely be copyrighted. I imagine everything to do with the series would be. I reckon the writer and producers of the films would go mental if anyone tried to use the series.

I'd wanna see a full blown 3d Pokemon RPG on the consoles first though But a Bully style Harry Potter game would be wicked.

Flash just came out with a new 3d engine. If someone could type me up some quidditch rules and some sketch art, I could have a free fully functioning 3d flash quidditch game within a month.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa...we're getting ahead of ourselves here. We're forgetting about the 7 more books she still has to write with Draco Malfoy as the protagonist!
But seriously, I'd play the shit out of a Harry Potter MMO. Or a single play RPG, either way...but preferably both!

Sorry about not having anything. I was extremely busy last night. I'll definately come up with some material for it today. Feel free to post any and all sketches/designs/ideas you may have.
EDIT: We should totally get this quidditch idea up and running. It'd be a great for the portfolio, also I found out that Warner Bros owns the Producing rights to the harry potter series, while EA does the video game development.
I'm sure they'd at least be interested if we had some sort of physical medium (like a 3d flash quidditch game) to show them. Lol, who knows. Maybe it'll end up like one of those movies from the 80's where a bunch of teenagers get to live off a big companies $. How cool would it be to take an eigth of shrooms on the EA campus every day and just make video games all the time? God, if they ever read that, it's never going to happen.
Anyways, I'll post up a simple game design tonight for the full game (both single player and MMO) along with some sketches and notes. Like I said earlier, I am fairly experienced with 3d modeling, but have little to no experience with flash/programming.

How about using a modding tool off of an existing game? Like I said earlier, that's how dice got their start with EA.

A Harry Potter rpg has the potential to be awesome. Play as a student in one of four houses and conquer quests, escorts, and bosses to graduate your Hogwarts as a powerful witch or wizard. Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Professors could show up in times of great need during phases of the game. There could be instances in zones such as the castles basement or the forbidden forest. There could also be Quidditch mini games or even small bosses in the Hogwarts library or greenhouse. As for classes, all classes would be wizard-esqe but would specialize in a 'major' such as potions, dark arts, healing, trasfiguration, or curses. PVP could take place in certain areas of the castle at times when professors were not around, thus the areas would change. Also, duels could be arranged.
Wow I typed a lot haha
