Music- what is your preference

I have had some of the greatest times of my life in the last 2 months experimenting with shrooms. My and my tripping buddies enjoy music such as Phish, The Beatles, Medeski Martin and Wood to listen to when we are tripping. I recently bought the yellow submarine dvd and we plan to watch that during our next journey. What type of music are you guys into?

my friend and i love to listen to hip hop when tripping, but i listen to all kinds of music, from AC DC to sublime, whatever. But some really cool trippy shit to listen to (hip hop) are people like Eyedea, Anti-Con, the Atoms family, and black eyed peas. If you want some music that is literally made for shroomin', then download Mushroom Jazz. i think there are like 4 CD's. i know there are at least 3. i like the other bands i named because you can sometimes pick up some mushroom jazz type music in the backround if your shroomin hard enough. if you like hip hop these are all great.

Yellow submarine is great to watch, start it right after you eat, by time they are showing each of the beatles first the shrooms should be coming on. It's great when they show George Harrison for the first time! Sitar is my favorite thing to listen to.

INCUBUS!!!! People hate on incubus way too much because they are mainstream.. their songs have DEEP MEANING... the lyrics are like poetry... and one of their earlier albums was called "fungus amongus" and a track on that cd is "pyscho psyilocibin".... fucking awesome... The warmth is an AWESOME song to trip to.. give them a shot.. have fun

I plan to experiment with Shpongle on my next trip, but here is my list.
My Current Favorite Trip Albums: Flaming Lips - Soft Bulletin and Y Battles the Pink Robots Wilco - Summers Teeth and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Radiohead - Kid A Sonic Sum - The Sanity Annex
From the list you gave, I would strongly suggest giving Wilco a try. Not as much of a "Jam" band as Phish and MMW, but more along the same type of music.
Other albums that used to be in my regular trip rotation, have found their way out, but still worthy of any good experience.
The Guru - Jazzmatazz DJ Shadow - Endtroducing Mark Farina - Mushroom Jazz volume I Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children Massive Attack - Mezzanine and Blue Lines Dr. Octagon - Dr. Octagonologist Orbital - In Sides Beck - The first time I listened to Midnight Vultures I was trippin' and it made my side hurt I laughed so hard. Pavement - Slanted and Enchanted Air - Moon Safari The Beatles - Any album Revolver and beyond (skip the really early stuff while trippin) Underworld - Second Toughest of the Infants Any heavy hitting Drum and Bass mix by one of the masters.

Right on. Almost all of their music has a psychedelic tone to it. Aqueous Transmission is an awesome song to trip to. I just put it on repeat.

While tripping (and even while not tripping, but ESSPECCILLY while not tripping) I love Reggae.
The feeling of peace, harmony, and the "we hate the system, but we are happy anyway" in Reggae is exsactly how I feel when I am tripping.

Ever play a record backwards while tripping? Things start to get a little freaky.

Astral Projection, Aphex Twin, Juno Reactor and Dark Soho are good too.

Shpongle, Tool, Autechre, Aphex, DJ Shadow, Lemon Jelly, R?yksopp, Hallucinogen, Floyd, Grateful Dead, Yes, Thievery Corporation, Infected Mushroom... countless more.
I've really been liking electronic music recently, but more the type that deviates from trance (not so say I don't LOVE trance). Shpongle, DJ Shadow, Squarepusher, Banco de Gaia ect. Ambient electronica can be astonishing, it can take you places and give you feelings no other music can. Can for me at least, s'pose it comes down to preference though.

Minimalist music is fantastic to listen to while tripping and I had a great time listening Philip Glass' opera Aknaten. His violin concerto is also excellent.
But, being that I believe that Richard Wagner is God, and if you are inclined to introspection, you can't go wrong with Parsifal, and IMO the greatest artistic creation in any genre in history, Tristan and Isolde. The chromatism gets to you; there is no beginning and no end to it.
Whatever you enjoy sober you enjoy more under the influence.

o FINALLY somone with great taste in trippy rap music... ive been listening to 3-6 for 4 1/2 years now and still cruise to their beats... and are at times hypnotic hence the record label hypnotize mindz.
i never tried listening to then tripping but imma give it a shot.
also i LOVE 3-6 with a HUGE monsterous system.... aka my new shyt, which will consist of a treo csx 18" with 3000 watts and my polk momo fronts with 210 watts to each side.... ooooooooo i rememebr my old system which was very similar when i was into smoking up and WOW that system used to move my LEATHER JACKET on my arms!!!!!
lets just say my port is soooo big that i could climb into the back of the car thru the port and get totally inside the box! now thats BASS!
sorry bout the whle car audio thiung but 3-6 brought back those memories, polus i was listening to em today. gotta rep the triple six mafia!

"does anyone know when the long-awaited new Shpongle will be released?"
Twisted Records claims that Simon and Raja should have the THIRD SHPONGLE ALBUM ready in early 2004 which is good news because I don't want them to rush it out They made a shitload of money (well compared to other electronic stuff..) from the last couple and I'm glad they're not just PUMPING them out now as I see many other artists do when they get relatively popular

yo irieDANK - nice choice man anticon make some tripped out music. my favourite hiphop artists ever. i havent tripped yet (plan to in coupla months - researching at the moment) but they will surely earn a spot on one of my trippin compilation cds.
i think bjork would be good music along with sigur ros and radiohead. "modest mouse - the stars are projectors" - everyone MUST get this song. it is an absolute journey

R. Carlos Nakai is pretty mellow. Its Native American Flute music.
I'm a big hip hop head, so imma list some tracks that i have TRIPPED over on shrooms
Del the funky homosapien - Town to Town Del the funky homosapien - Why you wanna get funky (the beat is insane) Del the funky homosapien - Thank Youse Del the funky homosapien - Mastermind Dan the Automater is a filthy producer (He makes beats for Del) Also, Kid Koala collabed with Dan on the Deltron 3030 Cd, which is awesome by the way.
Eyedea - Music Music Eyedea - The Dive (part 1) Eyedea - The Dive (part 2) Actually, the entire "the many faces of oliver hart" album by eyedea is ideal for tripping. I'm 99.9% positive he wrote the whole thing on shrooms... The lyrics emphasize all the types of things people realize on shrooms. Very descriptive and vivid. Makes for awesome imagery in your head.
Shpongle - Divine moments of Truth (WOW)

Shpongle is definately a MUST HAVE in my book. I just picked up both albums and I'm now experiencing them like never before. Having them on mp3 is not giving you the full experience at any rate whatsoever. As far as Shpongle goes though, I consider it to be nothing less than a potent hallucinogen consumed through the ears. Check it out. Gong is also another must have. It's some of the most insane psychedelic rock I've ever heard, and they definately have ALOT of amazing stuff. Check out songs like "Radio Gnome Invisible", "Oily Way", or "Pot Head Pixies". I'm sure you'll be pleasantly suprised. Soft Machine is also pretty amazing too. Psychedelic jazz/rock band from the 60's, performed with the early Pink Floyd at the UFO club in London, where they both got their start in the beginning. VERY amazing stuff, check out the album "Virtually". Infected Mushroom, Celtic Cross, Hallucinogen, Shulman, are all great suggestions too. Electronic music induces a certain UNsanity within my brain completely sober, and with psychedelics it only gets better. Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Beatles there's sooo much music I enjoy when I'm tripping and even when I'm not, it'd be difficult to list everything. Whatever your preference is, go with it. good luck man, hope you pick something that puts you where you need to be.

I don't understand why Shpongle is so huge... I downloaded a bunch of tracks from Kazaa and immediately deleted all of them upon listening. Maybe it's just not my style. Whatever floats your boat, though!
When I trip for the first time I have alot of mixes of really soft Incubus songs.. alot of acoustic Deftones, acoustic a perfect circle, alot of instrumental hiphop, some DJ BOBBY B!, and a colletion of other thigns I like listening to.
I just can't dig alot of that psychadelic rock, or anything, but if anyone has similiar tastes as me please feel free to drop me some suggestions!
Thanks!

Jimmy Hendrix is good. Any music from that era was made for psychadelics.
Otherwise though, the best music, the trippiest at the very least, are just the noises of nature when you're outside trippin'. Especially wind blowing through the trees and rattling the leaves. Same way on salvia. Lightning is also very trippy. Rain can drive you crazy though The sunshine is especially good to a trip, increases visuals for me.
I always thought mush and salvia were nature drugs, and it seems natural under the influence to enjoy nature as the wise mother of the two magical plants

SizzlinJ,
Three things for you re: Shpongle: It has more details and intricacies than you realize It is a wildly different experience when you have it in CD-Quality on a killer soundsystem It is a wildly different experience when you listen to it on psychedelics, and is made particularly for that purpose

Hmmm... goes to show you that there aren't too many of us old farts on here. I think I've only seen one Pink Floyd reference.
So for us in the "Over 30" crowd (and mayhaps for some of you young whippersnappers) here are some particularly nice Floyd selections for the journey... and don't forget the wisdom in the phrase that I read on some website somewhere: "You don't have to do drugs to enjoy Pink Floyd, you have to do Pink Floyd to enjoy drugs."
Atom Heart Mother - except for the AHM suite (bad vibes it gives me) Obscured By Clouds Animals (esp Dogs and Pigs (3 different ones)).
Here's a few Bonus Treks that I didn't expect to be particularly enlightened, but definitely were:
The Best of the Atlanta Rythym Section Jethro Tull - Songs from the Wood Journey - Evolution
Of course, it could be a matter of set rather than setting.

Great recommendations from everyone. I'm going to download some that sound promising Dude, you forgot to list one particularly great trip album by Floyd - Ummagumma Live! It has the best live performances I've personally heard by them, and the studio disc is pretty good, but haven't tested that out on acid/shrooms.
My other recommendations
Velvet Acid Christ - slightly dark techno (perfect for sadists like me) Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. Coil - some more dark twisted experimental ambient. they have a few albums that are easier on the mind, but the majority of their music is pretty harsh and interesting to experience on a trip. good with sound manipulation and pushing the sound from one headphone/speaker to the other. Musick to Play in the Dark Vol I and II, if you're brave enough. Deftones - White Pony (love this album, tripped to it a few times) Gorillaz - laid back psych rock, very upbeat and cruisy - good vibes Fantomas/Mr Bungle/Tomahawk - interesting bands Saw Fantomas live on acid, definitely an experience to remember! Devin Townsend - Terria will blow you away! Prog metal, very epic album, slightly harsh on a trip, but definitely worth experiencing. It was enough to make me explode in my pants Led Zeppelin - Well, what can I say? I love these guys. Yet to test it on a trip, but VERY fond of their albums, especially III Godspeed You Black Emperor! - Epic theatre rock, basically rock compositions, and a varity of instruments. Very emotional to trip to for me, definitely try this out. Shalabi Effect - weird band, hard to describe their sound. similar style to Godspeed, but completely different sound and vibe. Have yet to try these guys out on a trip. Their first album is a 2 disc epic, and over 2 hours long. Deep Purple - The album Machine Head has been my fav album from this band (and I admit, the only album I've actually heard) and I love it. Would be great to trip to, classic Smoke on the Water, and then a nice blues laden Lazy straight after. Good classic rock album Opeth - melodical black metal, if you're a metal fan, then you will have to try this band. metal sound, but woven with beautiful interludes, pieces and piano pieces. very moving for me, only tested this band on pot. A similar band is Agalloch, same style of melody infused black metal. Queens of the Stone Age - A stoner band born from Kyuss, definitely worth testing on shrooms/acid. Rated R would be their best album to trip to. Dog Fashion Disco - pop/metal. bizarre music, bizarre lyrics. quite twisted, but upbeat at times. I recommend these guys if you dig Mr Bungle's erractic style. And They Will Know Us By The Trail of the Dead (or Trail of Dead for short) - another stoner rock band. worth giving a listen. Anyone mentioned The Doors? - well shit, an obvious choice. Strange Days, and their very first album would be excellent. all of their albums would be good, in fact. OK, this is getting way too long. Just a few more band names: Cornelius, Sigur Ros, Jimi Hendrix, Earthtone 9, Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, Primus, Prodigy.
I think that's enough.... Oh, and don't forget Tool

Oh man, Dog Fashion Disco.. my band played with them two years ago in Miami...
Probably definately induce bad trips for me!
Earthtone9? You think so? I think just looking at the case for Arc'Tan'Gent would send me to space I gotta try it.
Do you know the name of the side project their singer is in now that they've split up?

Mmm...My preferences are all over the spectrum, so I'll start from the top... The Doors (Please, How could you argue?) Zeppelin. The Band... Mama's and Papas... Ozzy. AC/DC David Allen Coe. Jefferson Airplane. Smashing Pumpkins... Nas... Scarface. Outkast... Ugh. Enough...

Yes, Yes, Midnite Vultures. As recommended before. Beck mixed it up in the craziest way possible. Listen to this if you wanna laugh your ass off. I can't think of any better music to make you do so.
Don't rule out your minimalist composers, either, Philip Glass, Steve Reich, John Cage. The music seems to hold the same structure as visuals, for some strange reason, both rather amorphous, but slowly evolving.

Dog Fasion Disco is only if you're brave hehe. And yes, Earthtone 9 are great on trips. My first shroom trip I put on arc'tan'gent and it blew me away! The lyrics on that album are pretty philosophical and it goes well with trips (if you don't mind the screaming parts). It actually didn't freak me out in the slightest, and it put me in a really great mood. The other band he's in is called The Blueprint, they just released an album I have yet to listen to the whole album though.

I listen to mostly hardcore music anyway, but I figured it would be too much for a trip.
OH, by the way, I've actually learned to appreciate Shpongle. I listened to it for a while, and i've heard it onl gets better when you trip.

This thread has turned me on to so much great music, thanks everyone. I'd like to return the favor by suggesting you check out the album Hallucination Engine, by Material. A few other great ones from Bill Laswell and friends are: Arcana - Ark of the Testimony, and Axiom Ambient. Enjoy the journey.

Coil and the Legendary Pink Dots are delightful for me, because they can completely blow your mind with really subtle movements in sound and words. Very rarely do they use shock tactics, but I've felt as if I'd been taken to the heavens and/or gone through 40 Days in the Desert when listening to Musick to Play in the Dark vol. 1

Pink Floyd is great while tripping...especially the first song on dark side of the moon....all the laughing and yelling and the heartbeat seem like they're stuck in your head and then all of the sudden it goes into the instruments and u feel like ur flying...tis pretty trippy stuff...
