Shpongle is definately a MUST HAVE in my book. I just picked up both albums and I'm now experiencing them like never before. Having them on mp3 is not giving you the full experience at any rate whatsoever. As far as Shpongle goes though, I consider it to be nothing less than a potent hallucinogen consumed through the ears. Check it out. Gong is also another must have. It's some of the most insane psychedelic rock I've ever heard, and they definately have ALOT of amazing stuff. Check out songs like "Radio Gnome Invisible", "Oily Way", or "Pot Head Pixies". I'm sure you'll be pleasantly suprised. Soft Machine is also pretty amazing too. Psychedelic jazz/rock band from the 60's, performed with the early Pink Floyd at the UFO club in London, where they both got their start in the beginning. VERY amazing stuff, check out the album "Virtually". Infected Mushroom, Celtic Cross, Hallucinogen, Shulman, are all great suggestions too. Electronic music induces a certain UNsanity within my brain completely sober, and with psychedelics it only gets better. Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Beatles there's sooo much music I enjoy when I'm tripping and even when I'm not, it'd be difficult to list everything. Whatever your preference is, go with it. good luck man, hope you pick something that puts you where you need to be.

I don't understand why Shpongle is so huge... I downloaded a bunch of tracks from Kazaa and immediately deleted all of them upon listening. Maybe it's just not my style. Whatever floats your boat, though!
When I trip for the first time I have alot of mixes of really soft Incubus songs.. alot of acoustic Deftones, acoustic a perfect circle, alot of instrumental hiphop, some DJ BOBBY B!, and a colletion of other thigns I like listening to.
I just can't dig alot of that psychadelic rock, or anything, but if anyone has similiar tastes as me please feel free to drop me some suggestions!
Thanks!

Jimmy Hendrix is good. Any music from that era was made for psychadelics.
Otherwise though, the best music, the trippiest at the very least, are just the noises of nature when you're outside trippin'. Especially wind blowing through the trees and rattling the leaves. Same way on salvia. Lightning is also very trippy. Rain can drive you crazy though The sunshine is especially good to a trip, increases visuals for me.
I always thought mush and salvia were nature drugs, and it seems natural under the influence to enjoy nature as the wise mother of the two magical plants

SizzlinJ,
Three things for you re: Shpongle: It has more details and intricacies than you realize It is a wildly different experience when you have it in CD-Quality on a killer soundsystem It is a wildly different experience when you listen to it on psychedelics, and is made particularly for that purpose
-------------------- Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me. In addition: SHPONGLE

Hmmm... goes to show you that there aren't too many of us old farts on here. I think I've only seen one Pink Floyd reference.
So for us in the "Over 30" crowd (and mayhaps for some of you young whippersnappers) here are some particularly nice Floyd selections for the journey... and don't forget the wisdom in the phrase that I read on some website somewhere: "You don't have to do drugs to enjoy Pink Floyd, you have to do Pink Floyd to enjoy drugs."
Atom Heart Mother - except for the AHM suite (bad vibes it gives me) Obscured By Clouds Animals (esp Dogs and Pigs (3 different ones)).
Here's a few Bonus Treks that I didn't expect to be particularly enlightened, but definitely were:
The Best of the Atlanta Rythym Section Jethro Tull - Songs from the Wood Journey - Evolution
Of course, it could be a matter of set rather than setting.

Great recommendations from everyone. I'm going to download some that sound promising Dude, you forgot to list one particularly great trip album by Floyd - Ummagumma Live! It has the best live performances I've personally heard by them, and the studio disc is pretty good, but haven't tested that out on acid/shrooms.
My other recommendations
Velvet Acid Christ - slightly dark techno (perfect for sadists like me) Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. Coil - some more dark twisted experimental ambient. they have a few albums that are easier on the mind, but the majority of their music is pretty harsh and interesting to experience on a trip. good with sound manipulation and pushing the sound from one headphone/speaker to the other. Musick to Play in the Dark Vol I and II, if you're brave enough. Deftones - White Pony (love this album, tripped to it a few times) Gorillaz - laid back psych rock, very upbeat and cruisy - good vibes Fantomas/Mr Bungle/Tomahawk - interesting bands Saw Fantomas live on acid, definitely an experience to remember! Devin Townsend - Terria will blow you away! Prog metal, very epic album, slightly harsh on a trip, but definitely worth experiencing. It was enough to make me explode in my pants Led Zeppelin - Well, what can I say? I love these guys. Yet to test it on a trip, but VERY fond of their albums, especially III Godspeed You Black Emperor! - Epic theatre rock, basically rock compositions, and a varity of instruments. Very emotional to trip to for me, definitely try this out. Shalabi Effect - weird band, hard to describe their sound. similar style to Godspeed, but completely different sound and vibe. Have yet to try these guys out on a trip. Their first album is a 2 disc epic, and over 2 hours long. Deep Purple - The album Machine Head has been my fav album from this band (and I admit, the only album I've actually heard) and I love it. Would be great to trip to, classic Smoke on the Water, and then a nice blues laden Lazy straight after. Good classic rock album Opeth - melodical black metal, if you're a metal fan, then you will have to try this band. metal sound, but woven with beautiful interludes, pieces and piano pieces. very moving for me, only tested this band on pot. A similar band is Agalloch, same style of melody infused black metal. Queens of the Stone Age - A stoner band born from Kyuss, definitely worth testing on shrooms/acid. Rated R would be their best album to trip to. Dog Fashion Disco - pop/metal. bizarre music, bizarre lyrics. quite twisted, but upbeat at times. I recommend these guys if you dig Mr Bungle's erractic style. And They Will Know Us By The Trail of the Dead (or Trail of Dead for short) - another stoner rock band. worth giving a listen. Anyone mentioned The Doors? - well shit, an obvious choice. Strange Days, and their very first album would be excellent. all of their albums would be good, in fact. OK, this is getting way too long. Just a few more band names: Cornelius, Sigur Ros, Jimi Hendrix, Earthtone 9, Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, Primus, Prodigy.
I think that's enough.... Oh, and don't forget Tool

Oh man, Dog Fashion Disco.. my band played with them two years ago in Miami...
Probably definately induce bad trips for me!
Earthtone9? You think so? I think just looking at the case for Arc'Tan'Gent would send me to space I gotta try it.
Do you know the name of the side project their singer is in now that they've split up?

Yes, Yes, Midnite Vultures. As recommended before. Beck mixed it up in the craziest way possible. Listen to this if you wanna laugh your ass off. I can't think of any better music to make you do so.
Don't rule out your minimalist composers, either, Philip Glass, Steve Reich, John Cage. The music seems to hold the same structure as visuals, for some strange reason, both rather amorphous, but slowly evolving.

Dog Fasion Disco is only if you're brave hehe. And yes, Earthtone 9 are great on trips. My first shroom trip I put on arc'tan'gent and it blew me away! The lyrics on that album are pretty philosophical and it goes well with trips (if you don't mind the screaming parts). It actually didn't freak me out in the slightest, and it put me in a really great mood. The other band he's in is called The Blueprint, they just released an album I have yet to listen to the whole album though.

I listen to mostly hardcore music anyway, but I figured it would be too much for a trip.
OH, by the way, I've actually learned to appreciate Shpongle. I listened to it for a while, and i've heard it onl gets better when you trip.

Tool, Tomahawk, Floyd, Primus, Frog Brigade, David Byrne, Audioslave, NIN, Faith No More are all awesome tripping. For those who are metal-inclined, Meshuggah - Chaossphere is an amazing album to listen to while out of one's mind, as is Dillenger Escape Plan's selftitled. YAY SCREAMING
