Peer Blocker ?.
    #14836878 - 07/28/11 03:08 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a reliable free peer blocker program.  I don't know much about them, but my friend was asking me about them.

Thanks

http://www.peerblock.com/releases/public-releases/peerblock-1.1.0-r518

Scroll down until you find "peerblock installer" and click on it.

When installing it will ask you what to block, I block all four since they are all relevant. Set them all to update daily

Make sure you block both http and have peerblock enabled, if its working properly the block icon in the top left of the peerblock window will be blue(as opposed to yellow or red)

When you visit some sites, like those with .edu or .gov, peerblock will block them out and you will get a cannot connect error or something of the sort. Continually refresh the page to figure out which specific HTTP address that website is, the address will show up multiple times on the list after you refresh multiple times. Right click on that address and allow it, if your unsure as to whether it is the right one you can allow it for 15 minutes, If your sure its the right one and your going to use the website again "allow permanently"

This should make your illegal downloads somewhat safer:super:

peer blocker is about as useful as a condom with a crack whore.  in the end, it will not stop u from face aids.  using private sites only is about as safe as you are gonna be with torrents.

private sites arn't private if you can get into them within a couple hours of trying.  peer blocker is helpful but not true protection.  VPN's are what your looking for and they cost a monthly fee

i thought hotspot shield was pretty cool at first, then the shitstorm came.  I selected NO, to any bullshit during install, but it STILL hijacked my browser.  I think it may have even installed a fucking rootkit.  Whenever i try to search for something my shit was getting redirected from google to some other shit.  Then after doing a boot scan for viruses it was gone for awhile.  Then it started coming back only this time i noticed it started saying "hotspot" in the bottom left corner right before redirecting me to some bullshit search site again, and this is even AFTER ive compelely uninstalled the program!

anyways avoid that shit like the plague, and also do some google searches on it, you'll quickly find out that program has alot of complaints and other problems regarding privacy.  I also have my suspicions that all its doing is swapping your ip address with other hotspot users which of course would be completely useless if they happen to be downloading illegal files for example on your ip.  and since they are located in the USA if something does come up all they have to do is send a  request for logs and if they keep them which they prolly do,your screwed anyway.

and no your not safe, peer block is a list, which constantly changes, and is not complete.  There's always new ip's to fuck you.  Run across a file there watching and expect a notice in the mail or worse.

Still wondering how paranoid I should be

Say I have a hard drive filled with downloaded movies, should I encrypt it or is physical evidence not much of a factor

Can throwing away CDs with downloaded movies on them come back to haunt me somehow?

Does anybody know of a free VPN I can download movies through? Is that only necessary for new releases or should I be worried about any downloads?

encrypted/not encrypted won't matter, a judge will just order you to give the password.

if someone sifts through your trash, yes.

and no you most likely wont find any free vpn's besides that hotspot which is garbage

and for your last question, your guess is as good as any.  something like that could change at any moment

i just got done doing a bit of reading and apparently VPN's arn't that safe either.  What im gathering is that VPN's can be tracked, it just makes it more difficult and may discourage then.  Usually you use one oversea's, so all this considered it might be enough for protection.  But here's some other concerns i read, enabling privacy like this puts you under a radar per say, in that it singles you out and makes people wonder why you need it.

Next are a few problems that can happen using a VPN as well, you can have a DNS leak which will allow your ISP to see what your doing.  Also if your VPN server goes down your computer automatically reverts to its old IP and poof privacy gone and you'd prolly never notice.

apparently tor is the safest level of privacy, the problem is its so slow you can't use it for anything but posting on forums and such

Only in European countries, its now a precident in the US that an individual cannot be forced to provide evidence against themself. If in Europe a hidden partition would be recommended but could get complicated.

I meant long term, I have my garbage handled in that manner. If the disk were found separate from garbage that identifies its creator as me would the disk contain enough information on it to track it back to me?

How do you get your movies?

google geohot, he had his drive encrypted, they forced him to unlock it per court order.  This happened about 2-3 months ago.  So yes you can indeed be forced to unlock evidence against yourself.

do your disks contain finger prints?
