popcorn?

IVe heard from alot of people that popcorn is as good, if not better than rye. I dunno, alot of my pop corn jars have contaminated i guess...not anything real funky, but the kernels seem to get pretty fucked up. Ive never had any problem with contams with rye, and im even more sterile now. Could it be a moisture problem?

Then use rye :smile:.
I for one prefer rye over popcorn.

Details please on how you've preped the jars. Don't be too hasty popcorn changes funny colors as mycellium colonizes a kernal.

I would boil the kernels in a pot of water for about an hour, then let it sit for 1 more hour, drain, put in jars, then presure cook at 15psi for an hour. Innoculation(g2g) is done in a glove box currently, but wasnt in the past. One thing: I would take a jar of corn out of the presure cooker, with its seal air tight, no holes in the lid whatsoever, just sealed sterile popcorn, and it will contam. Why?

Since I have added polyfill, and used the glove box, and what not... but i still wanna know whats wrong.

I don't think that would put anywhere enough water content in it.

SHouldn't have if it had a good seal. Was the dome lid popped in like it's supposed to be if the seal is good, or did it pop up and down when you pressed on it?

Water boils at 212*f at sea level
210*f at 1,025 ft
208*f at 2,063 ft
206*f at 3,115 ft
204*f at 4,169 ft

195*f at 9,031 ft
Therefore the relationship is that as pressure increases so does temprature.

PRESSURE(PSI) - *FAHRENHEIT
1- 212
3- 220
5- 228
10- 240
15- 250
20- 259
25- 267

Revrend Stamen's good book says " Note that the effect achieved from sterilizing at 60 minutes at 15 psi is the same as that from 30 minutes at 30 psi.Hence a doulbling of pressure reduces sterization time by one half. "
Many harmfull bacteria die at 115*-175* ...but thats just the vegetative outside(parent) cell. The tough endospore inside may still survive and contaminate your jars . Grains especially have ALOT of bacterial endospores hence the reason for pre-soaking.Pre-Soaking softents of the outer shell of the endospoere and then kill it in the 250*f heat of your "pressure cooker"! Die contams DIE!!!!

Instead of soaking, just put the popcorn in the pc with alot of water about double the amount, and pc for 45 minutes Then load into your jar and pc again for 60 minutes. I've had no problems that way.
