When to go hunting in southern Louisiana?
    #1482115 - 04/22/03 11:10 AM (20 years, 11 months ago)

Last night me and my friend went hunting for about 2 hours, in two diffrent cow fields, and we didnt see not one shroom. We looked at old shit, fresh shit, medium shit, and anything else, you name it we searched it. I dontunderstand why they arent out yet. Isnt the season for P. Cubenis Febraury - November? Anyway, when is the best time to go? Because i hear its good to go after a rain, but it rained yesterday and the day before, and they're werent any out, I just dont understand...

Alrighty then, i may go again tonite, because last night was a lil chilly, a cold front had just moved through (the rain) so maybe they will be out tonite? Also i heard the best time to go looking is about 6am in the morning, is this true?

BTW thanx for the warm welcome, so far the shroomery forum is awesome.

Thanx again,

indeed, but where in Southern LA are you huntin ( Got a few friends in the Lafayette area who have had Some luck- very little at that but they've found a couple after the rains) Are you close to Laf at all?

Feb through Nov? Nah man- more like May- Sept being the peak months for cubes around the Gulf Coast.  As for the heat- don't worry about it- I found the majority of mine in Mid June last year - like 95-100*- so they like the hot weather- not just cool.

As a general rule of thumb- wait until the lows hit about 70 at night and highs hit around 85- those are perfect temps for them to grow around our area- (I'm in east TX near H-town)

Yeah I know what you mean about these cold fronts, they are fuckin it up-  55 and lower isn't good at all- except if your in GG's area in South FL where they strive in the winter months- Oct-Dec.

Just keep on pluggin and Maybe in early May things will turn around for the Best-

Seek and ye shall Find  never give Up

just wait a day after the rains- depending on how much it rains you might wanna wait longer, you can never tell until you go out though.

The summer Shroom season is just around the corner.

People should start finding them in Louisiana within the next 30 days or so...

Keep shroomin,

Most shrooms (Psilocybe cubensis do not grow from spores in the manure. The manure has to decompose for 6 weeks.

Most come from spores deposited on grass and then the manure falls on the grass where the mycelium is.

It is true that some shrooms myceliuum grows while int he stomach of the cow. I have posted at my site a fresh cow-pie which producecd Copelandia tropicalis for a 21 day period. I came back every three days after the initial find and picked them and cleaned away the leaes and came back every three days.

I am now posting some manure with the mycelium on the bottom of the pie.

That is why many cubies can be found growing along the outer edges of the manuere heaps in the fields.

Here are the pictures of some manure with the mycelium and small shrooms worming there way out towards the light.

And here is a cowpie of Copelandia cyanescens with the shrooms all emerging from under the pie and coming out onthe outskirts of the pie.

Well my hunt turned up nothing except some soaked shoes and shocks. I am going to try another field tonight. I think it might have been to water logged out in that field.
