Dingy Mycelium
    #14815055 - 07/23/11 07:55 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I looked at my jars today and it looks like they are kinda dingy in the middle of the mycelium spots. They are not discolored but they look a little less bright white than the edges of the spots(by spots I mean the little white spots that start when you first notice them). The edges of these spots are really white and ropy like they are sending out little roots but the middle of them are....I don't know how to put it a little less white, not grey or any other color just like a white shirt that has been worn too long. is this a problem. I thought it might be because of the verm. I used was pretty fine compared to others I've seen and the mycelium might have to grow  smaller or something, please let me know and I will try to take pictures and post them.

here are the pictures. I think I'm being paranoid because as soon as I took them out for pictures they looked better. I also think mycelium takes on the ambient light in the room you have it in and the light in my room was covered by plastic so it wasn't very good but the inner part of the myc. still looks different.

OK good but another question(if you don't mind) is what causes the moisture inside the jars and is it bad? If it is bad how do I prevent it?....I guess that's 2 questions...I have heard that it's because of excess heat but they never get above 84 max, I try to keep them at around 72ish but it can be hard cuz I have no insulation. I hope I didn't put too much water in there. I did measure it but maybe the slightest bit makes a difference. anyway thanks for all  your help, I won't be able to read the answers too these questions till tomorrow so thanks for the reply if you give one.

Condensation is to be expected. You have a hydrated grain or substrate and the temperature inside the jar will probably exceed the ambient room temperature during the growth phase. The temperature difference will cause condensation.

I don't think I've even seen a fully colonized jar without water inside, but I'm sure they exist.
