Mushroom hunting in the PNW
    #14808350 - 07/22/11 11:58 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I just moved from St. Louis to Washington state (puget sound area). I would love to know what mushrooms (edibles and hallucinogenics) grow in the area and what their seasons are. Are the morels popping now? I realize there is an abundance of them out here. I just don't know when and where to look yet. Really looking forward to getting to know my new area!

Well, summer is somewhat dead here. If you're interested something as broad as edibles and Actives in a area like the Puget sound you really oughta grab a field guide rather than asking folks here. The information is pretty darn available, not to mention theres a lot of it to learn.

If you are a good hunter you can find Boletus rex-veris in the Summer. Agaricus augustus as well. Some small patches of Cantharellus. Panaeolus cinctulus is easy enough.

First things first, join the Puget Sound Mycological Society.

Then buy "Mushrooms of the Pacific Northwest" by Ammirati and Trudell (Both PSMS members) and "Mushrooms Demystified" by David Arora.

Echo the above...

Fall is our main season, though there are some weak pans still out for a few more days. Then we wait....

Morels are may/June, some boletes and agaricus out... Fall is coming!! B

Our main active mushrooms are cyans and liberty caps, but have several other active species about the area. Rich fungal diversity here...

Welcome to the area!
