Spinal Cord Injury and hallucinogenics...
    #14799884 - 07/20/11 07:51 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

So I was in an accident several years back and injured my spine. Since I have been injured any type of hallucinogenic causes me to have very strong muscle spasms followed by sweating profusely, heightened blood pressure and heart rate.

One person asked me if I would every try again when I was first in the hospital with my injury and I told him probably not because I'd probably try to start walking... it seems that is the case with my legs :stoned:

So anyone ever have any experiences that they can relate, or friends they know of? I'd love to hear this at a highly technical level of what is going on... maybe autonomic disreflexia? I may have to stick to my wacky tobaccy.

My take on that would be a simple interpretation - hallucinogens enhance connectivity in the nervous system, and the brain has a detailed map of the body, which it may be trying to reconnect with.

It does sound like AD, which I hadn't heard of before.  A more "spiritual" explanation would look at chakras and the disconnection in flow between them by the injury, you might look there but I for one don't know anything about fixing that kind of thing.  OTOH research in spinal cord injuries is moving pretty fast so eventually you could get it put right.

If you have the same reaction every time and it's never good, I guess yeah, stick with what you can do.  But if it changes or decreases you might be able to leverage the effects into something useful.  Mushrooms do an interesting lot of neural rewiring so I suspect they potentiate neural growth as well; some lesions are unbreachable and others heal at least partially over time, if it's that kind you might get some results.

Best of luck!

There was another person who posted about this same topic before.  I'll see if I can find the thread.

Edit: Oh, sorry, that was also you.

Hello I'm very glad to see your post as I have a very  serious and fairly rare cns injury myself--
Traumatic Brachial Plexus Avulsion and I have been asking the same questions.  Hope to hear from you as I' can't really meet other spinal trauma patients in my current situation.
Have a good holidays
Edit-- I've spent 30 years studying the cns and spinal cord mainly because there were no Dr's in GA who had ever heard of TBPI and I eventually was flown to John's Hopkins Baltimore a couple times and had a massive 12 hrs spinal surgery--
I had a motorcycle accident in 1993.

yeah so i am no doctor and pretty much don't know anything about anything. that said, the gaba and glutimate secretions of the body maintain a sort of balance and gaba will antagonize glutimate, while glutimate will antagonize gaba. the muscle relaxant effect you really need is most often from natural gaba, and most hallucinogens increase acetylchholine and glutimate and gaba then will be very lacking.  maybe
but also the most obvious thing would be that most hallucinogens are sdnra sero, dopa, norep, release agents and that norepinephrine is adrenaline, so it tightens the muscles.  Okay lots of muscle relaxants are a2 adrenal receptor antagonists, so there's that too aye bub?

you should also maybe know that opioids do not work on gaba and do not have muscle relaxant properties, jus saying
