100% cow dung plant
    #14796599 - 07/20/11 07:15 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I use 100% cow dung growing Psilocybe cubensis. .. But it can not colonial but also more rare fruit. Why?

A fresh mushroom weight 5-6g. Is a small fruit? Normal circumstances, a mushroom should be the number of wet weight g?

doesnt look like you have a lot of fresh air going on in that container

also hpoo may be to dense of a substrate when used by itself. you should try using some verm or maybe coir to fluff it up a bit

Doesn't cow manure have too much or too little nitrogen for Mycelium growth? Is that not why we use horse dung?

cow dung is fine to use, but the op is right it is very hard for mycelium to colonize 100% poop, i have tried this experiment before. the poop is too dense for cubes to colonize in a feasible amount of time, thats why we use coco coir 50%, poop 20%, verm 14%, perlite 15 %, gypsum .5% - 1%

The manure in your tub is way too wet. Also, mix in vermiculite with your cow manure, up to 50%.

It looks like you have several issues going on. I gather your native language is not english?

You can tell your sub is too wet from the pics and not fully colonized.

Cow manure makes an excellent substrate, but needs additives such as verm and coir to give it the fluffy texture we are looking for.

I don't see any holes in your tub? Elaborate on your fruiting process please.

the mycelium is stressed that's why it started fruiting before full colonization.  This happens when substrate is improperly pasteurized

No, it doesn't just happen when the substrate is'nt properly pasteurized. It's not all or nothing like that. Many people on this forum pasteurize their sub incorrectly and get stellar crops. Example: Damions Coir Tek.
It is more likely it was prepared incorrectly, too wet, too muddy. This could of caused a contam that prompted early fruiting.

I believe cow dung actually has more nutrients then horse dung, the reason horse dung is the dung of choice is because it has a better consistency and does not compact as bad as cow dung. This is what I have gathered from other posts. So if you do use cow dung, it would seem logical that you would want to add more verm, and gypsum to get the consistency right and prevent it from compacting so much.

in the end its how fast you allow the bacteria to take over. wetter is faster better pasteurized is slower

ive used poo, got nothing but big fruits. verm is a must, 50% as stated above is good. if u can get your hands on wheat straw that will be even better! cow manure and straw with a lil verm is a great mix. and id highly recommend it
