This video gave me chills when I watched it. The idea of the internet actually facilitating a grassroots social movement... Just wow. Share if you enjoyed. End the War on Drugs.

Anonymous isn't a singular entity, it's faceless and morphs continuously, but the majority of what it does just mostly pisses off governments and companies due to media coverage and humiliation. Wikileaks and gray area hackers have done more to turn the tables. DDoS attacks aren't going to cure the drug war, racial injustice, tax breaks for the wealthy, or your grandmother's gingivitis.

Which is why this movement is attempting to build a community infrastructure.

It seems completely possible (maybe not probable) to me that Anonymous and/or LulzSec could be an excuse for governments to implement stricter internet security regulations. Currently there is an internet spying ("Lawful Access") bill in Canada in the works at the moment which would allow police to monitor a suspect's internet connection in real time, without even needing a warrant. This was not introduced in response to Anonymous/Lulzsec, but regardless I'm confident the threat of "cyber terrorism" will be one of the many justifications offered for the implementation of this lawful access bill. Not saying I overall disagree with Anonymous/Lulzsec's efforts, I just worry about their actions hurting us later on.

Don't get too emotional. Our primal tendency towards group-mindedness and belonging is partially responsible for the mess we're all in.

Indeed. But perhaps we need to step it up a level. Nationalism to humanism to earthlingism?

Instead of complaining and hiding behind a computer, why dont these kids do anything substantially productive? They remind me of the hippies in the 60s. Instead of getting involved and making any change, they just take and complain. Walk in the front door with a tie, an education and experience. These guys are just throwing moltov cocktails...

Right, there is a difference in how we rally and what we rally for.
But I don't think the world is homogenous and mono-cultured to the point that the concept "we" bears any real meaning. Even the ones instigating attention about all the manipulation and exploitation themselves depend on that manipulation and exploitation. I drove my gas-gussling car to go make photocopies of a Guerrilla movement poster for the streets - so, ironically the war in the Middle East is indirectly supporting the conditions that allow us to realize that war is financially corrupt and unjust? For these reasons I believe what is occurring is much more systematic and dynamic. It cannot easily be reduced to an 'us versus them' dichotomy. It's natural complexity and we only scratch the surface with finger pointing.
