Off-white stuff growing at the base of a stalk
    #1479336 - 04/21/03 04:59 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

I just had my first flush of B+ strain P. Cubensis and noticed on one of my mushrooms an off-white almost hair-like growth on the base of one of my stalks. There are two abhorts around this mushroom (on either side) and only their caps are visible (black) as this stuff has grown up around it. It is not the bright white of mycelium and it may be cobweb mold but i'm not sure. It is only spreading on that mushroom and has not infected the rest of the cake. I sprayed with hydrogen peroxide to no avail. Could someone please tell me if this is edible...it's a very "poofy" substance that resembles hair - a mold i'm guessing but what kind??

Maybe it's cobweb mould. Although it's harmless to humans, i wouldn't recommend keeping the ones growing with the mould. You have to keep treating the mould or else you'll have to toss the cake.

Does it look kind of like what is at the bottom of these mushrooms?

Fuzzy stuff

If so you are safe it is normal.

Good link mycophat !! I've failed twice due to cobweb mold. Now that I have a weapon,(H2O2); I'm ready to try attempt #3. "Thanks...."
