I decided to go somewhere new on Friday to check out the mushrooms in other types of forests. Here are a few of the things I found...
Tremella fimbriata

Coprinellus disseminatus

Neobarya agaricicola - probably the coolest find of the day The little yellow flasks are a parasitic ascomycete attacking a marasmioid mushroom

Heterotextus peziziformis (or maybe H. multinus)

Descolea recedens

Laccocephalum sclerotinium - Fire stimulates the pseudosclerotium to produce a fruiting body

Lactarius eucalypti

Hydnum umbilicatum

Geastrum sp.

Clavulinopsis corallinorosacea

Gymnopilus sp. (maybe G. allantopus)

Gymnopilus ferruginosus

Gymnopilus sp.

Peziza sp.

Xerula sp. - it was huge

Tremella fuciformis

I went out today and found a couple more cool things
Dermocybe splendida

Cortinarius sp. - I think this is an undescribed species from subgenus Telamonia. There are only two other species of hypogeous (growing underground) Cortinarius with a persistent veil in Australia. This one most resembles C. debbiae.

That last Gym was really odd. It took me a while to even realise they were Gyms. They had these unusual conical caps.

It was the first time I'd found them so I was happy. I found a few more but not a lot... just enough for lunch. They were good

It's the middle of winter at the moment so it's not very warm. That day was nice and sunny but wouldn't have been more than 10oC (50F). We have had some very frosty nights recently.

lol, we have opposite seasons in the southern hemisphere. It's all about the Earth's axial tilt and which hemisphere is closest to the sun. We have plenty of sun and heat over your winter.

It was great to go somewhere new and being in a lush, wet forest was a very nice change from the open woodlands I normally hunt.
The Xerula stood about a foot tall. It looked too top heavy to be supporting itself. None of the gyms showed any blueing. We have a lot of Gyms unique to Australia and I'm still trying to get my head around them. The D. splendida had incredibly bright red gills, more than the pic shows. They're prized by mushroom dyers

Thanks wisco! I didn't observe any blueing but here are a couple more pics

I put them on MO if you want to see larger versions of them.
