k so I cased my brf over2 weeks ago, perhaps my layer of substrate was not adaquate to the thickness of my top casing layer (jiffy mix, btw) in any event, still just a TINY bit of mycel. comming to the top after all that time and I can see alittle bit of fuzz in some small places and it smells rather rancid, not bad but a little. Is it crap?, can I save it by maybe spraying with a mix of water and peroxide or something? Could I possibly scrape off the some casing and thin it out to the point I might be able to enitiate pinning, I can only see mycl. in certain places but it's VERY VERY close to the top and showing in some places. Could I initiate pinning now by cold shocking? What the hell, help an idiot out porvafor?!?

Give it more time and ventilation. The casing layer is probably too thick and, if it smells, it may also be too moist. Peroxide will do no good and hold off on the misting unless you are sure the casing is too dry. The mycelium comming to the surface tells you that you are doing something right. If growth is still stalled after two months, I would begin to worry.

If it keeps smelling after a couple of days, toss it and start again, don't waste you time with a dying casing.

I don't know if it's dying or not but would there be any major harm in 'sterilly' scraping off the excess casing to where I can C the white, coldshocking, and sticking in the ter.?

Be patient and keep fanning. It is much too soon to think about cold shocking. It is not your shrooms that need to chill.
