so activated charcoal diet is a good choice

isnt meat carbon based, what about food coloring, high fructose corn syrup,
it's a chain of carbons... water on the other hand is not carbon based so it
must surely be a toxin

even a doctor will suggest eating healthier. not everyone has money for a doctor. why not study before wasting money? you'll surely find doctor opinions online anyways.

i have already acknowledged that the body rids itself of toxins. that doesn't mean it can't be helped along by a good diet. "these diets" shows you don't know what you're talking about with this specific diet and that you are judging it purely on the name.

yes, a doctor will tell you to eat healthier but as has been mentioned by the
both of us, do some research. when I mention 'these diets' I'm referring to
the fad diets that so many people decide to take up, the raw food,
fruititarian, juice diets, atkins diet, etc... they're fads, the last version
is outdated and a new version with few changes are the new thing

as kopid is suggesting, let's discuss these toxins, the fact that you're
telling us to 'read the book, take up speed reading', it sounds as though
you dont know much about this raw food diet yourself, we know there's some
things we should avoid like the processed foods but the question is why?
is alcohol really a toxin if taken in moderation or is that toxin actually
beneficial? is meat a toxin simply because some lady claiming to be a
clinical nutritionist says it is? should I actually go on some crazy vegan
raw food diet when my body is capable of purging these toxins? will my
teeth fall out because I've chosen this diet? will my health actually
suffer in the long run if I move from eating a regular healthy diet that
involves cooked as well as raw foods?

http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/2643/does-fasting-rid-the-body-of-toxins

it is tiring to converse with those with conceit of knowledge. the book explains itself better than i can. this isn't your fad diet. i'm not going to waste all my time arguing and reiterating everything in the book with you when you can read the book and then come back and argue. i figured you wouldn't read it, that's why i recommend the speed reading. it'll only take half an hour if you read well. no reason for this waste of time on my part.

good point about the water.

you're suggesting people rid their bodies of something their bodies rid it's
self of naturally yet you're unwilling to discuss it, I wonder why...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detoxification_%28alternative_medicine%29

Quote:

Detoxification is an alternative medicine approach that proponents claim rids the body of "toxins", accumulated harmful substances that are alleged to exert undesirable effects on individual health. Detoxification usually includes one or more of: dieting, fasting, consuming exclusively, or avoiding specific foods (such as fats, carbohydrates, fruits, vegetables, juices, herbs or water), colon cleansing, chelation therapy, or the removal of dental fillings.[1][2] Body cleansing is not supported by science, with no medical benefits demonstrated, and is based on questionable or disproved scientific claims.[3][4][5][6] The toxins are usually undefined, with no evidence (or inappropriately used testing) for toxic accumulation in the patient.[7]

Tek for nut milk:

(the filtration step with cheesecloth i had a problem with, it took forever, if someone wants to throw in an idea for filtering out solid from liquid, please tell me)

Grind 1C of almonds, oats, walnuts, or hazelnut, or a mix of all of them if you want i guess, in a coffee grinder.

Put the product in a quart jar.

Place 3C water in same jar.

Put metal lid and ring on, swish around.

Take lid off.

Place one layer of cheesecloth on mouth of jar, screw lid ring on.

Pour liquid off into another container, preferably a glass jar(plastic is made from oil and the toxins, even in small amounts, have been shown in studies to be bad for mice) for storage in fridge.

Now you should have a white water, that you can use for cereal or to dip cookies in, for the psychological satisfaction of not using clear water. It's also pretty healthy.

When i have enough money to get the ingredients, i will see if the nut left over(not oats) is ground small enough to add small amounts of oil to make nut butter, but it is conceivable from having made homemade peanut butter.

If using oats, just throw remnants in with oatmeal made in microwave with water.

i'm thinking of using a sieve multiple times instead of cheesecloth next time i make the nut milk. should work better

Using good information from credible sources give legitimacy to claims. Using bad information from non-peer reviewed sources is a cause for concern. Science isn't about absolutes, its about the most probable.

I once met a person in there early thirties when i was holding down a non-skilled job to pay university fees. He believed that mainstream education was brainwashing and my soon to be Bsc was a worthless piece of paper and i was a brainwashed product of the NWO. Regardless of all the compelling facts to the contrary, he believe so adamantly in his own beliefs as truth. Some people are so consumed by their own ignorance that they use it to feel superior to others.
This thread reminded me of him, just wanted to share.

I don't know if you read any of the replies to your post. They are advocating the use academic standards to lend credibility to such statements. I'm not saying every word you say needs to be referenced but statements like above deserve some more evidence other than "I've seen" . It's important to understand that not everything written is "fact" and taking information from the internet without heavy scrutiny is unwise.

This is the most concrete evidence that the people who buy into and support these fad diets and "miracle" treatments also are the people who have the least amount of knowledge or education on the most basic nutritional sciences.

Let's drop a little knowledge here.

-Firstly, just because something is inorganic, doesn't mean it's a toxin.  It almost seems like you're blending the terms of "organic foods" to some sort of greater definition applying to basic biochemical concepts.

You need all kinds of inorganic compounds in your body just to maintain basic daily functions.

Sodium
Potassium
Calcium
Iron
Magnesium

Being some examples.  And as Pris stated,  something called WATER.

-Secondly, alot of *actual* toxins are organic molecules by definition.

Tretrodo *Toxin*
Botulism *Toxin*
Tetanus *Toxin*
Endo *Toxin*
Exo *Toxin*

They all have carbon structures as their chemical makeup.

-Thirdly, saying that "anything your body can naturally get rid of" as being a definition of a toxin, is just plain false.  Theres all kinds of toxins, both organic and inorganic, that your body lacks any mechanism towards ridding.  Hence why people suffer dramatic reactions and often fatal complications when exposed, to actual, real toxins.

I'm surprised this thread hasn't been flagged or the poster hasn't been banned for spreading misinformation around.  Wasn't that the whole point of this website?  To prevent the spread of misinformation?  Isn't that in the mission statement or motto?

I'm still trying to figure out if he was serious or just trolling y'all.

At the time of his post, OP hadn't even tried this nut milk that he is a proponent of.

Quote:

linkamathingy said:
proportions are to taste but 1C:4C(nut:water) is a good start i've heard(i don't have a fucking blender).

I won't even count the number of claims OP makes throughout this thread, but its clear at this point he isn't even interested in defending any of them (most likely because he lacks the ability to defend his words). Everytime someone tries to talk in more detail about one claim or another, he seems to sidestep it by defending the work ethic of the author, lashing out at evidence-based approaches, or throwing out phrases like "Nihon-jin" to wear a mask of being knowledgeable.

linkamathingy, if you're going to make numerous claims, then the onus is on you to provide the specifics of why they should be taken seriously. Its rather baffling to me why you completely ignore the biologists who are explaining specific methods of action in the body to you, yet you feel obligated to defend the claims of (as far as I can tell) an unqualified author whose words you appear to accept on faith.

If you can't back up the claims you've made in terms of specific methods of action and addressing the concerns of the professional biologists here, then all you have to do is say "Hey, I read this book and it all sounded really good to me. I thought I would help people by passing the information along, but I lack the background to understand the specifics." That would be the responsible thing to do, but I guess its probably easier to flee than to stand up and admit that.

If you can back up the claims, then I suggest you do so and stop avoiding the real debate in this thread. Surely if you continue to sidestep evidence to the contrary of your claims, then everyone who reads this thread will write these concepts off as unfounded psuedoscience. If this is the case, you will have done nothing to help people as was your original intent, instead you will have done just the opposite, causing them to ignore the advice.

So where did you get this explanation that anything that's not an organic molecule is a toxin?
