Some people feel that their reincarnation goes from different lifetimes and isn't passed on through genes. Based on their karma (Idk what he will way but only what I feel he will say ha) they may in one lifetime be an asian man in teh 15th century but build up a lot of negative karma and a way to rid themselves of it is to be a futuristic humanoid from the year 3000.
It doesn't have to be linear. Or even genetic, really. Since I doubt in a past life I was my father.

I think genes could be an indication of past lives, since there seems to be a correlation between race and certain energetic dispositions. It makes sense to me that a "people" would stay together across lifetimes

But then again genes are 50% mother/father genes.

I suppose I see the body as nothing more than a temporary vehicle, so I don't see how that would effect reincarnation. I'd like to think I have been one of every race.

^^^This.
Certain groups of people make different sets of circumstances and habitats for souls to grow over time. In my understanding the process of reincarnation is a process that the soul under takes to become karmically balanced before being able to transcend and leave that cycle. It is said that before each reincarnation that we choose the events that we wish to happen to us in our next lives, so that we may continue to experience and grow.
I think it is definitely possible that certain sets of souls are tied to one another by a common drive to continue this growth and collection of experiences. They could create circumstances favorable to this progression that could be experienced for generations through certain blood lines.
Another reason I think that this may be possible, is because I suspect that one of my prior incarnations is my great uncle. I never met the man, nor was he alive when I was born, yet my mother named me after him for the soul reason that she wanted a good name with a J. Lo and behold, when I am born, I look exactly like this person. Not only do I look exactly like this person, from what my grandfather tells me about his life, we think and act almost identically.
But, who knows, I sure don't. It is a cool thought thought, and maybe I am on the right track, maybe I am on a wrong one. I won't find that out until I am out of this game :]
edit: to add in a small tirade...
It is also said that during this cycle of life, death rebirth you remain unaware that you are traveling this path. You are born and die and reborn in a blur, not remembering anything of your past lives, but at a certain point, once you come to the proper realizations, something in your soul remembers and carries onward. That experience will strike a spark, and catch fire, and you will never forget it; the void will be spiced with your enlightenment.
I think this is how it goes, it has been a while since I have brushed up on this topic

It is temporary, and every set of circumstances is different. You very well could have been a wandering soul, a nomad of the celestial planes :].

Personally I think that some people are reincarnated from distant placs while others tend to reincarnate in a certain area.
This case is pretty intense. Imagine being your own grandfather! Ridiculous! and the music makes it so much more creepy.
