Your post just got me thinking, why don't we all set up a thread and brainstorm and contribute parts to a base track of some sorts, and anybody willing can contributes one thing to the song, then the next poster, etc. and there'd be input from everyone involved. Would be interesting to see what would arise.

Collective Shroomery jam? :awegroove:

Count me in, i spend all my spare time doing musics, not saying im any good but have a few ideas  :rastamon:

Awesome. I'm hoping propensity and The_Ghost see this thread soon as well, their music is damn impressive.

No worries, I don't mind other stuff being posted in here. Your post alone makes an often thankless thing like music worth doing, sunset. Sure, it's easy for someone to like a song and applaud it, but it's the rare occasion when something of yours makes an impact on somebody else.

About the netlabel thing. I'm decent at web design, so it wouldn't be much trouble to put something together and spiff it up all nice and sexy. I'm good at making sites load fast. What would it be called? "Shroomery Music" or something? I think Shroomery being in the title would make sense, with us all being from here and all. Throw suggestions out and see what we get.

I like the idea of collaborating on stuff, but that's really hard to coordinate online, what with different software and equipment and all.

I am wholeheartedly glad my input reaffirms your creative passion. :psychsplit: I also agree, whenever theres been a time that even one person out of the whole that have listened to my sounds has stepped forward and really expressed their joy for it it makes me smile deep down inside, that my mission is complete, and I have successfully facilitated the spreading of a peaceful experience through audial means to someone else out there in the world. It does feel great, and I'll just say again that your song actually defined my experience earlier. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I'm also proficient at web design (my major in college + took 3 years of it in High School) so I too could assist with that.

As for personally label experience I have my own independent label of sorts that I intend to use as distro/promotional/handling/etc. for my own music. To be very honest it's still in the foetal stages  but I could try my hands at contributing to this netlabel, in any way possible.

As for the collaboration: I have expressed alot of interest in wanting to collaborate with quite a few people here on the Shroomery but it never fell through.

I'm going to try and get this ball rolling and create a base track (some ambient as some foundation, ambient is my forte) so it'd be alot easier and more fluid for people to contribute to. I would suggest that each person try to contribute one movement (one instrument, however long you please) to the piece. It doesn't have to be "EVERYONE MAKE UP 4 MINUTES WORTH ONE AFTER ANOTHER". I love multi-layered compositions. We should definitely try to get a good theme agreed upon when we start but yeah, I'm hoping later tonight/early tomorrow I'll have the collective jam thread up (should I post here or in music forum? more peeps would read it here.. yeah fuck it it'll be in The Pub)

As for the label name  Shroomeracity? Shroomery Symphonics? Tunery? :justdontknow: You guys'll think up something awesome.

pretty dope man!

do you intend to add percussion? or not even it stands alone well either way.

good job

It stands out very well by itself, and I think percussion would take away from the atmosphere; this is a beautiful tune.

Now I gotta check out your stuff!

That was an awesome song. I feel like a slow progressing down tempo drum beat would fit perfectly to complete it; but I'm a drummer, so it's hard for me to listen to music without percussion.
Regardless though, you've got a sweet ear for composition.

Do all of you guys have soundclouds?
I'm gonna make a group on there for all the fellow shroomerite producers to join.

Well, I can't figure out how to invite people to the group, so you guys are just gonna have to add yourselves:
http://soundcloud.com/groups/mycelial-mysteries

To add songs to the group stream, you have to go back to your profile and at the top of the song widget you should see "Share with group".

Hahaha, I like The Tunery a lot. A good fallback if something better doesn't come along. The only feasible way I see a collab working is if we did something similar to what you said, sunset. Someone comes up with a base, then specifies the tempo and any other needed info about the track. Someone else then takes it and 'samples' it in the software of their choice and adds stuff to it. They then save every track as a separate .WAV file that are all the exact length of the song and put them in a .zip file or something so the next person can then 'piece it back together' in their program, etc.

Still, it might be hard limiting yourself to one new instrument in a song. I for one would have a lot of trouble adding one instrument over a whole song because I'd want to add something else to accent it and so on.

If we did get together under some sort of collective, I'd imagine that album releases we made would be a sort of "everyone makes one track that fits the theme described" sorta thing. So, say we wanted to have an album or EP that captures the feeling of laying alone in the darkness while tripping on acid; all involved in the project would contribute one or two ambient-ish tracks. You get the idea. We'd need someone who would be able to master and balance the final mixes of all the songs so it flows and doesn't suffer from starkly contrasting EQ settings between songs.

I don't know how on earth finances would be handled if we decided to try selling anything since there would be so many contributors. Money is not my forté.

For anybody curious, my name on SoundCloud is "TheBegrimedOne." I placed my "More to Life" track in the Shroomery group for you guys to check out. More piano love, with some beats this time. Please lemme know what you think of it. Feedback feeds me. Check below.

not unless we are using the same software

Alright. I've created the base track.

You'd want to separate the instruments? I was thinking that we post up the file to download in a post, someone comes up and says they will be adding a part, we wait until they return and they just save over their part to a copy of the file and reupload that. So each new post the song will come more and more to life. All software accepts WAV files right? I don't really see the big issue with utilizing different software for one song, it just increases the scope of what can be done and added. It would be great and up to the current contributor to ensure that whatever they add doesn't sound too out of place in terms of production/EQ though.

Well I suggested one instrument because it'd make it easier for the next to overlay a part over but hey, if you have a great idea knock yourself out and do what thou wilt! This project is about freedom and near total expression and wonderful collaboration.

Well this little collab track is a neat little experiment and if/when we do release a split album apart from all of us contributing our own works we could end the album with this collaborative song!

Money's not my forte nor is monetary gain ever something I've pursued with music. But if someone did want to start distributing CD's and whatnot I'd still support.

Anyways I'm going to go make the thread now; well, after I find out this: so far, who express interest in contributing? Gill, Rafiki, Sperger, myself, who else?
