i'm going to shut team viewer if you keep this up. there's no real good cookies you can steal from me anyway, but still, I don't want an angry tech know it all telling me what I do and don't know. at least I assembled my own computer, and installed windows on it. so I used a copied .iso, I'm not trying to attempt programming, or brain surgery, or rocket science here. and that link you gave me didn't remove the 'windows isn't valid' prompt window. go change jumpers on hard drives or something. idk w/e

ok yes, I got there, and can see the partition. the problem is, I see the options:
open explore and mark partition as active, but that option isn't highlighted
that partition appears to have the 'healthy' status, but I don't get the option to activate that partition. I tried. thanks for the help. oh well

dude, u literally asked me how to open a rar file. u have 3 open threads in here asking how to do the simplest stuff, and instead of following the directions given to u, u just ask 50 questions about the directions given to you. either you are completely computer illiterate, or trolling.

you seem just like the type of person I'd want to give access to my computer through team viewer. I was just thinking what a trust worthy type of guy you are. thanks for the help, but remember since I haven't seen rare file before I must be too stupid to use open suse or ubuntu or whatever

Why not use the Windows installer Ubuntu offers that was mentioned earlier by veggie and myself. It is completely idiot proof. Run it like you would a normal app and let it do it's thing.

maybe you can only set a windows partition as active through the gui, i'm not sure... again, haven't used windows in ages... but...
from a command prompt:
DISKPART (to open the partition utility) LIST DISK (disk number(s) will be shown) SELECT DISK n (where n is the number of the disk - probably 0) LIST PARTITION (partition number(s) will be shown) SELECT PARTITION n (where n is the number of the Primary partition you wish to make Active) ACTIVE (the selected partition on the selected disk will be made Active) EXIT (to exit DiskPart) EXIT (to exit the Command Prompt)

It takes a lot of courage to go out there and radiate your essence. I know you scared, you should ask us if we scared too. If you was there, and we just knew you cared too.

hey, why don't you go overheat the gpu, your xbox 360 advice sucks. what do you think linux is, harder to use then ms dos? I used ms dos, and linux is a TON easier. go apply at intel or some shit since you know everything. I'll bet they'd laugh for 30 minutes straight just glancing at your resume "i fixed 360s dude, I know what a rar file is, I can set up a vlan, I went to howtosubnet.com and learned a bunch of stuff"

I don't trust things that are supposed to run at boot, to try them a different way. with computers, when it's idiot proof, it usually screws up. especially if it's supposed to run at boot. If I hadn't first booted to partition magic, and created a partition, then installed ubuntu on it, I wouldn't have been able to chose how large of a partition I wanted. all I skipped in the install was the file swap partition, but w/e. I had the option to run it like that, and I didn't. how does this change viewing the partition or not at start up? it's not like that is a completely unheard of problem, to install a partition then not see it at start up.

ok that had nothing to do with partitions. anyway I don't know it said 2 disks, but my external passport is plugged in. anyway, I activated the second partition, which previously said unknown, it now says it's active. thanks for the help. command line seemed easiest way to do this. I'll reboot and see if linux comes up right now. appreciate it
ok I'm on now! lol, I forgot how weird linux is, I haven't used it in a moment. anyway, I made the mistake of encrypting key folders when I Installed. no big deal, they let me write down my encryption passphrase:
it's 0663dc3afe9551b147eb5caf92af886
lol that's long. oh wait I told you!
just kidding, I doubt anyone is going to come into my house, use my computer, log onto the linux partition that's now active, and use that passphrase to log into my root folders or whatever. most likely they'd probably log onto the windows partition and notice that it isn't active, and probably assume I looked up cracking the activation, and couldn't achieve, and chuckle that I'm not too bright
anyway, since this encryption is encrypted within the file system, I assume removing it wouldn't be as easy as say, removing a bios password, which, is as simple as removing a jumper on the motherboard, placing it elsewhere, then replacing it at the original position. I did write down the pass phrase, but really, I'm sure I'll lose it or something. Anyway thanks I got this up and running and won't have to worry about dumb activation crack codes not working. The dumb thing is, if I had used the same disk that came with the computer, and reentered the same activation code that's on the side of my computer next to the bar code, it STILL probably wouldn't work, considering it was activated in the factory. I guess not necessarily, but anyway what a mess oh well whatever. I got linux working, so I can forget about that other problem for now, appreciate it
