SGFC question.

Instead of using an sgfc for a fruiting chamber, would it work just as well to use a tub that has 6 large filtered holes (1/2 inch). Im just trying to figure it out because i thought it would work better if the fruiting chamber was more sterile. (For Cubes).

an sgfc is plenty sterile when properly airiated and is great for grow a number of species. and yes the latter of the designs which you described is called a monotub which would harber your bulk substrate and is capable of colonization and fruiting. do some searches man... you find out what its all about way faster...

oh i left out part of that, and i have done some searches, anyway.
im not ready to step up from BRF yet, i have tried many a time and failed. so, i was gonna use the mono design to fruit the cakes, i just thought it would be more efficient, because of less contams. but some people say like you did, that sgfc is plenty sterile. ive had good luck with it except once. i got a contam, it still fruited though.

the monotub ain't for cakes bub keep searching... try searching monotubs and bulk substrates even though your doing cakes... you need to understand and visualize some things

Cotams at the fruiting stage are caused by lack of FAE.
I know you said you're not ready for bulk but this is what you need when you are: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11961453
I think you should move past the PF tek, it may be bogging you down. And as far as your original post, the SGFC is the best thing for cakes, bared none.

Good luck

ive attempted monotubs before but they keep contaminating. but all im trying to figure out is: do the holes from the sgfc get better air flow than the hole setup ona mono. if so it makes sense to me to use the sgfc but if the holes were like a mono they would be filtered so if they got the same air flow they would be better right? now that i think about it the whole reason for all the holes in an sgfc is to lift humidity out of the perlite right? guess i just answered my own Question.
