Contam or Burnt Substrate?
    #14758308 - 07/12/11 05:50 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

I think I remember seeing stuff like this in jars past.  They're blackish-brow spots with rust-colored fringes.  I noticed this spot the day after inoculation...it may have been there before innoc but I didn't really look at the jars too carefully.  The jar has now completely colonized and the spot hasn't grown one iota in 2.5 weeks.

Other jars have similar but much smaller spots.  Any idea what it is?  I'm thinking it's either burnt substrate, the result of a chemical reaction, or something like that cause it doesn't seem to be living.

Yeah, not spreading at all, and I saw it in the jar before I saw any mycelium, so I figure if it was a contam it would have overtaken the substrate.  It looks like something stuck to the glass maybe, like verm or BRF that got burnt during sterilization.  I'm like 99% sure I've seen it in jars before and it turned out to be nothing.
