Now i seen some fancy water effect on Direct x 11 but other than that its shit
I donno what happened to good old Glide2x drivers but the other day i installed old Tribes 2 and this is what happened.
Now Tribes 2, it worked perfectly fine on my Pentium 4 600 MHz back in 2000.
So i put ALL options on max, resolution - 1900 x 1200... and Direct X as driver.
It works like shit, no kidding.
But, Tribes 2 still have OpenGL options open! So u try OpenGl and it works like knife thro butter.
Direct x sucks

sometimes older games don't work as well with newer drivers. I'm not even lying with this, it's just the truth. direct x 11 doesn't suck, but I don't think they've utilized it's full potential yet. direct x 10 so far isn't too far below direct x 11, but direct x 9 seems like crap compared to direct x 10.

Uh, dude, what crack are you smoking? Your conclusions are erroneous. DirectX11 doesn't suck because one game you are trying to play made over 10 years ago doesn't work well with it.
Tribes2 doesn't even support DX11, or 10... or 9. It was designed for DirectX 8.0A & 7. OpenGL has always worked best for performance in Tribes. It's not a DirectX issue, it's a Tribes issue.
Try playing any modern DX11 capable game and then come back and tell me it sucks.

ohh and by the way its not just Tribes that suck with Dx.
Take latest MS flight sim, although it works at full detail and full resolution it still has this wacky feel to it and not very efficient i can tell

Actually, it is a DirectX not being backwards compatible issue, assuming that Tribes worked with a lower version of DirectX.

I don't need to play a game to know that DX11 sucks. It was developed by Microsoft; 'nuff said.

Tessellation is fucking awesome. When you have hardware capable of running a benchmark or game that takes advantage of tessellation you can easily notice the difference and really appreciate it.

Dont be hasty.
Are you talking about Windows 7 or the whole win 32 program environment?
I must admit MS aint perfect but they released quality professional software to students last year and for that big thanks goes to them.

I'm talking about Microsoft. They were an abusive monopoly under Bill Gates and they are a failing behemoth under Steve Ballmer. Leave it to a marketing yoyo to find a way to kill a monopoly.
> but they released quality professional software to students last year and for that big thanks goes to them.
It costs them pennies to give away free software to people that would not have purchased the software, yet they get a huge tax credit because they claim the software they give away (to education) at full market value. I also wouldn't describe anything that Microsoft produced as "quality". Sparkly shit is still shit.

And what other operation system beside Ubuntu?

The issue with new games that are serious monsters, like Witcher 2, is that drivers always need updated and SLI/Crossfire shit needs tweaked. That's done pretty fast and the payoff is incredible.
Just within the last week Witcher 2 was patched to work with 1920x1200 and it's fuckin insane. With ultra settings using xfire 6970's the cards run incredibly hot to the point I have to use TRIXX for custom fan settings... I don't like my cards running at 90C. Granted I don't get my AC until tomorrow but still.

gcc/g++ or clang, emacs integration or vim, git or svn for revision control, etc. MacOS has XCode which blows Visual C++ away.
> And what other operation system beside Ubuntu?
FreeBSD, OpenBSD, iBSD, SCO, Solaris, Plan 9, BeOS, MacOS X, WebOS, etc...
