Renting a house/Landlord coming over while I'm not home

One of my landlord's employees called earlier saying that he was coming over to our house with some repairmen that will be working in our attic tomorrow.
We told them we will not be at home until late in the evening and that they can come when we get home or on the weekend when we will be there.
He insists that they will be coming over tomorrow anyways and that they'll only be 45 minutes.
I expressed my disapproval over the phone but my girlfriend pretty much gave in and said okay.
Doesn't the law say that the landlord has to give 24 hour notice? Even then can they come into my home while I'm not there against my will?
I'm pretty pissed off about this. I'm taking the day off tomorrow to make sure no one gets too nosy.

No,you have to agree to a 24 hr notice before hand and even then, unless youve changed the locks, they can enter. At least the Landlord was considerate enough to tell you they were coming.

My two main concerns are
1) Colonizing jars
2)The cutest Black Lab puppy you ever laid eyes on that I haven't paid a $200 pet deposit for.
I think I'm just going to put my jars under lock and key, take my dog to a friend's house and go to work.
I'm not happy that the landlord insists on coming into my home while I'm not there whether I like it or not.

Yeah, agreed, Ive lived in apts for years. Its a reasonable concern for tenant and landlords. They dont want any problems and if your a good tenant thats quiet, pays the rent on time, consistently with no complaints theres usually no problem and they want you to live there forever. But, if they get psycho and start poppin in all the time or coming over to fix this or that, it becomes an imposition and time to move. When a tenant moves in they usually want to see how your lifestyle is and may request things like this, checkin you out. If he didnt agree to a dog, he can request you to remove it or vacate. Pets are a major source of property damage.

Actually it depends where you live. In Ontario, even if you signed a lease saying no pets you can still have one. Certain things you sign on a lease are not binding.

Educate yourself on your tenant / renter laws for your province / state. For example, in ontario, the landlord must give 24 hours notice. (Unless emergency or if you give notice you are leaving they can show off the place between 8AM and 8PM).

How is Canada? Pretty liberal? Socially, are the people content? Do they treat each other well? Im in the states, lot of social problems. Here landlords do pretty much as they please.

My lease states that my landlord has to give 24 hours notice and states specifically not to enter if we're not home. She's really cool. We've seen her maybe three times in the last year, once being when we moved in.

There are some decent landlords, people that have been in the same situation, and have enough business sense to know that renters that are left alone usually pay the rent and stay awhile.
