Planning first bulk grow

Hey everyone, i've been growing with pf tek for almost a year now, off and on, just started a new batch after a few months of nothing. The new batch of 5 pf jars are colonizing nicely with no contaminants. I've been wanting to do a bulk grow, and would like some suggestions on which would be a good way for me to go.
I want to try doing a wheat berry jar. I have a general idea of two things i want to try. I want my jars to get fully colonised first. I'm either going to let them start fruiting, and try to clone a mushroom, or just use some of the mycellium and put in the jar with the pastuerized wheat berries. I know a little bit about cloning, never tried it, just what i've read on it, I do know that i need some agar solution on petri dishes.
Hope i'm not being too vague, but if I could get some personal input on which would be a better method to go, it would be much appreciated, thanks.

You're being vague. Why not spawn grains to bulk substrate like everybody else?

I really don't know, I just started doing something i was familiar with hoping i could just go off of that, the pf jars. I might just stick to doing that, but I do want to try cloning.

So clone a shroom from the cakes to a grain jar. Take a piece of tissue from a shroom & drop it in a grain jar & wait for it to grow, hopefully without contams. I can't believe Doc T didn't mention agar. Doc are you feeling alright?

Why would I? Did you read RP's first post?

You can try your cloning experiment since it seems like something you want to do, but I would highly advise using grains (rye, wheat, whatever) and spawn it into some pasteurized bulk substrate such as coir, verm and gypsum. I highly recommend using Damion5050's Elementary Coir Tek. It is so easy it's stupid.

Cloning is a great way to acquire a useful culture. Grain spawn is an efficient way to propagate it, but then cakes are too. Just depends on style, really. And spores->agar has advantages too.

Oh I totally agree with what you said, Doc_T; I was just suggesting that he worry more about the growing essentials, such as propagation like you stated.
Cloning for ones first bulk grow is possible, but I would probably just go with MS first.

But he has never done grains, pasteurization, monotubs, etc; did you read the title?
I just figure starting with MS would be a safe, easy choice for starting a first grow, whether it be with cakes or bulk.

Sorry for the delay on replying, yeah, im totally unfamiliar with grains, i've only done pf tek in a sgfc. Anywho, thanks for the suggestions, i feel i should know what MS is, but what is MS?

Multispore. A straight inoculation of spores. Not a clone or isolate.

Thanks a lot for the help, I checked out the coir tek you suggested, I probably will do that, i do have on question about that, after I put the 5 quarts of spawn in it, i'm assuming it's going to colonize the substrate, is temperature an issue? Like does it have to be at typical colonizing temps, 75-81f?
edit- also, is coir something i could find at a hardware store or walmart, or is it something i would need to order online?

75 is good. Use the search function and you can find about anything.
