My first attempt at grains
    #14750996 - 07/11/11 12:10 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

Hi Every one.

I am about to have a go at grains and wanted to ask a quick question.

I have some jars that previously had olives in. I have cleaned them thoroughly and they still smell of olives.

Should I sterilize them in the pressure cooker and for how long if so?

Thanks

Just go out and buy a dozen quart jars. Make some lids with self healing injection ports and filtered gas exchange holes

I have plenty of jars, don't need to buy any more.

Any way that hasn't really answered my question, it's not answered it all.

I've used salsa jars and they always reek of salsa no matter what. I've used them for LC too, you're fine.

just wash any debris out, i would just use hot water and a brush. when you pressure cook the grain in the jar for 90mins at 15psi, the inside of the jar gets sterilised aswell.

i'd recomend you make a small hole in the lid and cover both sides of it with a blob of silicone sealant. you can use that hole as an injection port if needed. then make another larger hole and silicone a piece of tyveck over it/ stuff a bit of polyfill in it. that will form a good air filter.

some of those olive jars are hench!  gd times
