Red Contaminant(?)
    #14747800 - 07/10/11 08:38 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

I recently spotted a dot of what looked to be contamination in a jar.  It looked like a drop of blood fell on the mycelium.  From what I've seen on the contamination article, it looks most like lipstick mold, but the article said this is an uncommon casing problem, and shouldn't likely be in my jars which I was very careful in injecting.
I found it interesting that the red spot was near big concentrations of the yellow 'waste' that mycelium produces as it grows.  Could this red spot be another type of mecelial waste?

a picture would help, as would posting this in the contamination forum, but since we are here...

Something like that?

Here is what came from that spawn after it ate right around and through the dots.

What you describe is Pink Mold, Neurospora!  The yellow "waste" is the mycelium metabolizing in an effort to combat the contamination.

Get that infected jar out of your area, quickly.  Pink mold is a rarer infection but it's PITA.  It's sticky, and when it arrives, it usually takes a cleansing of the grow area to rid it from said area.

What are your colonizing temperatures at, normally?  Pink mold usually arrives in higher then average colonization temperatures.

I recently had the same thing, looked like a tube of lipstick melted in 2 of my jars of WBS.
I shit canned them, not knowing what it was, only knew it wasn't normal.
