Outdoor: Isolate (Harvest Pics on Page 2)

Hey folks,
I am just posting an update on my summer outdoor grow for 2011. I had some mild success with this last year, so I decided a repeat.
I have several EQ and one PE tray in my outdoor fruiting contraption; it is merely a rabbit cage, designed to keep critters in, but for my purposes to keep critters out. Raccoons find rye berries to be a worthy snack.
Here is one of the EQ trays. I have been using the wax paper trick with great success. Who thought that indoor growing practices could be implemented outdoors? I cased the colonized substrates with a thin layer of vermiculite and pseudo-fresh grass clippings. Pins started popping up last night.

I mist them probably 3 times a day or so. They get natural sunlight and plenty of FAE.

Here is that same EQ tray again but 18 hours later.

Here is another tray.

And here is the lot of them.

I am not sure what you are referring to? What was my spawning technique?

These trays were actually prepared the usual way, with spawned grains. I used 2 quarts of rye grain spawn per shoe box sized tray. The spawn to sub was about a 1:1 ratio. I layered the spawn and substrate. The substrate was simply coir, verm and gypsum. I prepared it via Damion5050's Elementary Coir Tek.

Yes sir. I "case" my outdoor trays with a thin layer of dry verm and then some pseudo-fresh grass clippings/small leaves. I then mist the casing to provide a nice moist environment on the surface.
Leaves work great for larger substrates.

Another reason I like green grass is that it is "waxy" in texture; this may have some relationship with the wax paper trick bulk growers use for monotubs and such. Also, the myc will colonize the verm, but it only partially colonizes the grass. This may have to do with the fact that the plant cells within a blade of grass are still living?

Ohh alright. Should I spawn my wbs to poo outdoors? Or just leave the wbs as is with verm/peat

Peat/verm/hydrated lime = casing
Poo/coir/verm/gypsum = substrate
I would spawn your WBS into some shoe box sized trays with a substrate of your choice; poo works great, but it prone to contamination. I prefer using coir/verm/gypsum because it is so easy to pasteurize. Search Damion5050's Elementary Coir Tek.
I would let that tray colonize completely, consolidate for a bit if you want, then put it outside.
In the end it is up to you though.

Yeah, I think I am going to go buy another dehydrator or two as well as some serious amounts of Damp Rid.

That really white looking tray, the one that is behind the others, is PE. It wasn't tossed outdoors until about 4-5 days after the EQ. One of the EQ trays (back far right) definitely has fewer pins than the others; hopefully it does well on the 2nd and 3rd flushes.
ETA: Just did the math and I have over 800 square inches of fruiting surface and over 60 quarts of spawn/substrate in the cage. If that were all together in a monotub, it would be equivalent to over 2.5 58 quart monotubs.

I figured before you said anything that the white tray was PE lol haven't done any myself but I have seen so many pics on the forum I kinda knew, I suppose those big white blobs gave it away seems common with PE looks nice. You might want to try Epsom salt. I use it and it WAY cheaper than damp rid plus easier for me to find locally (nothing against the net but I like supporting the local economy not china) not more than 5$ at most Walgreen's for a good amount and seeing as you have a dehydrator doubt you would need to go as far as spendy damp rid. I fan dry for a day or two and use a desiccant chamber utilizing Epsom salt cracker dry after 24 hrs. Though this is just my personal pref others might say otherwise.
Epsom salt. I never would have thought of that. Good call. I will have to pick some up.

I realized that I have some serious side pinning. I was initially planning on fruiting them as mush blocks, but I decided that trays would be better for maintaining moisture. This is especially worth consideration outdoors.
Anyway, once this flush finishes, should I just take the blocks out, pick the side pins (or leave them?), dunk and try as blocks for round 2?
