Rye grain/seed is what you ask for at a farm supply store. Rye berries are what you ask for at a health foods store.

Almost any grain will work, oats, wheat, rye, millet, sorghum. As long as it's whole grain and not treated with pesticides, it will work. Wild bird seed is quite popular with many US members, it is cheap and abundant.

I get alot more contams from the wbs, but when I was laid off I had time to deal with it. Now that I am back to work it is not worth my time to piss with it and mainly use Rye Berries. Maybe it's just the way I do things, but every batch wheather it is rye or wbs is done the same and I have less comtams with the rye.

It is the easiest to get right, and the mycelium loves it, and it's a great size and texture.

A little but not too crazy, health food stores are like that. Find wild bird seed at Canadian Tire or someplace, use that. Prep it about like RR does rye in his video, but you don't have to soak as long because the grains are smaller.

Don't you have to pick out the sunflower seeds if they are in the mix?
-------------------- Of course, then there's the problem of eating vermiculite. On the bright side, it makes your poop and teeth glitter. Just pretend it's christmas.

You don't have to. And they float right up to the top, it's not like you need to pick them out. People have been using WBS for like ten years, you guys gotta UTSE. I'm done here.

so i know there are a lot of teks out there, but with rye berries is that all you use? What I mean is that I know that the mycelium will get their food and energy from the rye berries but with the pf cakes the vermiculite supposedly helps it aerate and hold water...All you need is rye berries in there. again, im new so im sorry
