Hey guys, ive been having a nightmare getting hold of Gypsum. Builder round here just dont seem to use plasterboard/drywall anymore so no scraps. Plus I dont fancy messing with drywall.
Buying gypsum online for purpose of brewing is way, way expensive. £10 1KG.
IVe managed to find the following products finally by British-Gypsum, now they state that they are all Gypsum Based, that translated to me means other things in there. Could somebody supply some insite.

You don't want plaster. You want agricultural gypsum. It's used for breaking up clay soils, and for neutralizing salts from chemical fertilizers after the farmers trash their soil. RR

I would get agricultural gypsum if it was possible, not easy to get here I guess. I managed to get a data sheet which had this:
General compisition: Calcium Sulphate hemihydrate(thats great), natural constuents may include: clay, limestone and minor amounts of quartz. additives may include minor amounts of, (less than one percent)lime(I can balance I suppose). Also contains perlite aggrigate.
Im still trying to get the proper stuff but until then, hows this gonna do?

Solution:
I was finding it difficult to get a dependable cheep supply too of Gypsum.
Search in your region "agriculture supply/ farm supply stores and ask them if they are able to provide you with "Calcium Sulfate" aka gypsum.
Here is a photo of the bags I buy. I pay $13 for a 50 lb bag.
Most farmers use it to treat soil.

I get mine from a farm supply store that sells grain as well as other produces in a small farming town near where I live.

I use this one
I find it does the job quite nicely and is very dependable. To test soils, you just put a wee bit of distilled water until it becomes a solution, then test.
