Cake placement inside fruiting chamber
    #14743614 - 07/10/11 12:57 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

I just inoculated my first batch of jars (ever) on Friday but I have just one question. After I birth the cakes and dunk them how should they be placed in the fruiting chamber? Should the end that was at the top of the jar during colonization face up in the fruiting chamber or should I flip it over?

Let me illustrate as best I can

I place them in the FC the same direction they sat during colonization  :bigjoint:

I have FINALLY written up a couple teks as to how SHP has done things in the past. DISCLAIMER: This is not for the newbie to mycology, and not going to work for everyone! This is simply what works for one person when other teks and methods have failed miserably!

With many species, flipping a substrate over is a pinning trigger.  As for placement, I put the bottom side(in the jar) up because the concave divot caused by the shape of the jar makes a nice place to pour water during the flush for a mid-flush hydration.
