Does one early pin affect the flush? (aka, the big floppy mushroom)

Not conclusive, but this is what I see happen usually if a pin pops up ahead of the rest. One pin starts out early, it grows big and keeps the rest of the flush small. This is a second flush, one bag with an early pin, growing up. Last pictures are two bags, grew at the same time, had similar first flushes.

Dry weight on the tray with the big one was 20 grams, the other tray was 29 grams. This is why some growers say pick early pins. I really never do though, because its only a couple grams your missing out on, and I like getting some big ones.

Yeah, sounds like you got it...
It's like this... you picked up a case of beer and invited some friends over to watch the game @ 7. One friend shows up early at 5 and drinks 6 of the beers before anyone else gets there. He's half in the bag by the time the rest of your friends show up, and now everybody is splitting what's left of the case. Your other friends barely catch a buzz and meanwhile he's out back puking off the deck.
There's X amount of moisture to drive your flush... one pin is ahead of the bunch and gets rolling, by the time it's really moving the others are there to take what's left... mushrooms grow like water balloons... they're basically fully "formed" at the pin stage, then they inflate with water, the cells strengthen - they add mass and fill moisture but the number of cells in the body doesn't change... so that first one is blowing up like a balloon and drawing lots of moisture out of the surrounding area, there's not enough to go around for the others to reach that size, they split what's left basically.
You got two choices... nip off that early pin for more even growth on the others... or just enjoy the bragging rights and photo-ops resulting from a bigass mushroom.
If you wanted to play around and purposely try and draw a huge one out, you could always do the opposite on a later flush, and pick off the majority of the pins leaving just a few... and watch em go huge without the competition... they're splitting a case of beer between two or three friends rather than a house full

Well creamcorn, some disagree that an early pin will draw from the others. It has always been my experience that it has, I just happened to see an opportunity to photograph it. It is easy to blame this on the fact that its MS, but my bags are very consistent.. Everyone can take it for what it is though.
As for substrate, WBS with coir/verm/gypsum. More information was just posted in my other posts, and more will follow here: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14743475
