Eventually! - My first decent Chicken! =)

Super-chuffed at my first decent chicken find!
At approx a good 50cm wide and 50cm deep, this beauty has made 6 meals so far and been handed out to 3 different friends. I have frozen some of the surplus, very very tasty when just the very shelf-tips are cooked up.
Found in central Scotland, UK (near Loch Tay) 3rd July 2011
Here's to finding more of this gorgeous shroom! Thanks to the Shroomery & it's inhabitants for being one of the best repositories of info on mushrooms on the 'net.
(Excuse the brag, but hey, can't you tell I'm a smidge chuffed?)

Cheers guys, the rest I've found were way too mature, or not chickens at all
Photos of Chicken is situ were taken whilst balancing on the very end of a semi-rotten log; no real time to get good in-situ photos...maybe next time.
I have a plan to go hunting with a freind who promised to share his dozen+ fruiting ground of Sparassis crispa's. I've also been told a whole 10 mile stretch of a certain lakeside is good for many shrooms...maybe I'll find some more chickens

Ah, nono, elprawn, was just in Scotland for a visit, I live down in t'Lake District. Either side of Consiton water is very good for very good edibles.
Well Bob, I've already done my butter, salt and pepper on granary toast 'tester' meal with the first inch of the shelf-tips :-Sublime!!!, and did a risotto with some dried Hen of the Woods and Hedgehogs (and Chicken tips) earlier this evening.
I fancy doing a mushroom pie, which I think Chickens would lend themselves to very well. I also like the idea of deep frying (in batter) the slightly tougher 'meat'.
What are your recommendations for eating?

I've had them deep fried in batter. They are good that way. Mushroom pie sounds really interesting. Different. With mash, gravy and peas? Like that?

A friend likes to get a variety of shrooms from the supermarket and she knocks up a stunning shroom pie. Flaky pastry...maybe mushroom gravy... some greens; fresh/french green beans, mangetout/petis pois also go very well. Maybe some mashed sweet potato... the options are endless..
Yes, like that ;O)

Haven't made a Chicken of the Woods pie yet, but have made a gorgeous breakfast of CotW, chestnut shrooms, bacon & pancakes:
 And my favourite, Coq-au-vin-au-coq

Thought that coq-au-vin was CotW curry, which I think i'll make as soon as I find one this year.
