i know theres a million and a half threads that are about similar things, but after reading through a bunch im still pretty confused. this is my first attempt, and wondering if i really need a good casing layer, if i can go with a 50/50 verm/perl casing layer (all i got around the house), or if i need a casing layer at all. pf tek brf w/ cubes (Im home pretty much all day everyday to mist so they should get plenty of humidity when fruiting).

Why do you have a 50/50 mix of perlite and vermiculite?

I think you'r confusing the 50/50 PEAT/VERM. (a standard casing mix) somehow with verm./perlite.
Give your cakes AT LEAST one week inside the jars, after full colonization is reached, as for a period of consolidation. Submerge your cakes into water for 12-24 hours prior to rolling the freshly dunked cakes in vermiculite, then placing in the FC. This process is known as "birthing".
