im new to and i live in the tahoe area (american river valley) I already pickedup a copy of the audobon society field guide to mushroom hunting in north america. just lookin foir some pointers, just any tips people have for hunting in my area. thanks

Depends a bit on what you're looking for.

In general, go out and look around. Cover ground. When you find some mushrooms, collect them - use waxed paper or brown paper lunch sacks, not plastic bags. Make sure you get the entire mushroom - some have the stem extend underground like a root. Bring them home and do your best to figure out what they are before you ask. The effort will help make you better at it. Start with the spore print color.

If you want to look for a specific kind of mushroom, learn what they look like. Look at the photo, and study the text description. Read the habitat description and try to find areas like what's described.

Don't expect success right away. Keep trying and you'll probably do alright.
