I've never used dumb bells for any press except OH shoulder. Do you suppose it would be a good way to switch to db's from bars to break a plateau? Tbh I wanted to remove db's completely from my routine. To me they symbolise broism

Dumbells are fantastic IMHO because they make you use every muscle including all the small stabilizer muscles.

90lbs in each hand for an incline press is definitely not terrible LOL maybe you should attempt some heavier barbell presses.  You may surprise yourself

Depending on how my strength loss goes I might consider starting a SINGLE cycle

Can anyone give me a good run down if they've ever had the intention of doing one cycle as a "boost" but just kept going continuously? (Sub-addiction?)

It's a very touchy subject of how long to stay on cycle.  The problem is, most if not all "worthwhile" steroids are going to shut down your natural production of Test.  So the longer you cycle the harder it is to come back from.  By this I mean mentally and physically.  If you cruise some steroid forums you'll find everything from short cycles like Fry is on to 16 week anavar only cycles... (WTF I know)

I plan on running for 12 weeks for this first one but I'm also taking precautions to make sure PCT runs as smoothly as possible.  Hope that helps but if you really are contemplating then you should definitely do some research.

I just have to say;

I think you guys taking or thinking about taking steroids are off your rockers.

I think everyone here must understand in their heart that there is no substitute for patience, discipline and hardwork.

Whats the rush guys?

(i dont know, do what you want i guess. I am saddened by the direction this thread has taken.)

Steroids still require discipline and hard work, you just don't need as much patience.

I don't see the problem. People all over this board take drugs as a fast way to achieve "enlightenment" or whatever and no one infers to them that it's "cheating."

I can't remember the name of the exercise, but there's this lift using dumbbells where you start off with your arms down (obviously) and the tops of your hands facing outwards, and as you go up you transition into a hammer curl and they help build your brachialis muscle in your arms, between your bicep and tricep.

They work your biceps too of course, but building the brachialis pushes your bicep out more.

Arnold advocated this workout.

if you can find it that would be great, i'm not sure i get what you're saying...
i need to do a lot of work on all my deltoids, and i think i need to strengthen my arms a lot more if i want to do low bar squats as supporting that weight on my rhomboids with the arms has shown me that the extra support of shoulder strength and flexibility is a must. im not too sure how powercleans and shoulder-pressing is going to go with my shoulder the way it is now, if it comes back 100% or not... but i do know for sure i need to work my shoulders a lot, they have been kind of neglected as have my arms (in proportion to my size my arms don't look overly worked or bulky, as i haven't been doing any curls or anything of the sort)

PDU, i'll try keep the roid talk down, it's just a teaser really i guess, i most likely won't jump on them. it jsut gets frustrating in these times when it seems my impatience outweighs my discipline. i'll try harder to keep this all clean and above-belt.

No worries - I'll admit, the roid discussion has me a little bit captivated, and i'll continue reading inspite of my opinions.

Im not going to hate, but felt it necessary to state my opinion about steroids.

Let me ask you:
Would you want people to know you take steroids (or took steroids) to get where your at? Would you tell your friends, your lover and your parents? How do you justify yourself in spite of others opinions (be they right, or wrong?)

I would be happy to hear anyones opinion on this.

My friends (not all), girlfriend, and parents know. I don't tell them willingly but they've asked and I admitted.

I justify it by the fact that I'm not in competition with anyone. If I were taking steroids while playing sports I would feel immoral, but since I'm doing it for personal goals I see no problem with it.

Ive only done military press for the last year. no other shoulder workouts. and my shoulders are larger then most people's.

The one everyone wants is bicept brachii not brachialis.

The one everyone wants? Most people I know don't know anything about the brachi's lol.

This is definitely the one Arnold talked about. If you get that muscle bigger it pushes out the bicep more.

the brachialis is rarely even mentioned in the medical field. Its not as important.

Lol no dude.

I am definitely talking about brachialis. I've done exercises that use that muscle and know it works.

I'm not saying bicep brachii isn't useful to exercise, it just isn't the one I was mentioning Arnold talking about.

ok....

I think it would be really dumb of me to question anything arnold says... but still its the brachii that is the main part everyone has thats big.

Oh I'm not saying that's the main muscle that people work on getting bigger in their arms, brachialis is a pretty small muscle that not many people pay attention to, but it doesn't make the bicep "bigger", it just pushes it out more because the brachialis is underneath the bicep.

I think I just wasn't being clear enough.

Fair enough, i can accept that.

Also, fair argument comparing the use of drugs for spiritual purposes to using them for physical enhancement.

Steroids arn't my style and i feel fairly opinionated against them, but to each their own. Ill continue to read...

How do you feel about the people who use them who can't gain anymore naturally due to genetics? Just curious.

Honestly I think any supplements other than protein are in the same category as steroids though, just way inferior lol.

I'd never pondered the situation to tell you the truth.

The first thing that I think of is questioning ones motivations to surpass their own biology and whether its healthy or has a place in the human evolution.

I would question the validity of such a motivation.

I think that someone that has reached their natural limits would be better off learning to be comfortable with their condition or push themselves in other directions, rather than chemically pushing themselves beyond their biology.

Perhaps it is my ignorance speaking, but i feel that people largely use steroids for aesthetic reasons, and i am opposed to that, and am unable to understand it. It seems to me that o ne would be mentally troubled to desire to be more than can naturally be. It also feels that people use steroids as a shortcut, which i think is unacceptable. If one is using steroids for athletic performance gains, that's cheating and also wrong.

I cannot see any acceptable use of steroids outside of medicine, besides to be some sort of beyond human muscle man, and if that's what you want, fair enough, i can celebrate freaks in all their forms. (i am not using the word freak in a negative way.)

The difference i see between using psychedelics for mental enhancements, and steroids for physical enhancement is in the longevity of effects in the long term. Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that people who use steroids rapidly lose their gains when they stop taking them.

(That said, i have very little knowledge about steroids, and am sure they can be used responsibly.)

Quote:

I agree with this whole heartedly.

I take no supplements, not even a protein supplement. I view all of that stuff mostly as a marketing gimmick, and nearly resent people who swear by it (because it often seems that people associate their gains with what they buy, and not what they do.. feels cheap to me. Using supplements as an alternative to knowledge/healthy lifestyle defies logic IMO.)

Healthy home cooked meals, some lifting, and an active lifestyle are all i need.

That said, i am not doing 100lb dumbbell presses or 450-550-700lb squats or anything of the like, nor am i "shredded."

To each their own. I cannot shake the feeling that all natural is what's best for mind and body.

Anyways, i reached a Deadlift PR today following a format i've never used before:

3x5 @ 230
1x5 @ 260
1x3 @ 295
1x2 @ 325
1x1 @ 345
1x1 @ 355

I was doing 5x5 1x/week all winter and the last few workouts have been doing 7x3 (or something similar) adding 10lbs/week.

Last week i was at 295 and felt like mixing things up today.

Anyways, i am stoked to have passed 350. I was stuck at 330 the first cycle i did when i started lifting last fall/winter.

I definitely could have lifted more or done 355 for reps if i did less volume in the lighters sets.

Obviously my progress is slow compared to you guys who train more seriously, but i'm happy with it.
