Mycelium growing on bottoms of fruit?
    #14736053 - 07/08/11 12:19 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

Hi everybody! I'm currently having my second flush mature and it seems as though there's this strandy mycelium growing at the bottom of the stems upwards, it's probably not cobweb mold but I'm not sure. If it is cobweb mold, could I still take spore prints or would it be a lost cause? These pictures probably won't be of much help, but the first shows one with a good amount on the bottom right mushroom. The second has a mushroom that has a blob kinda growing on the aluminum.

It's not cobbweb, it's mycelium. It will move up the stems from too high humidity without enough FAE

Raise your RH.  Your caps are drying out
What kind of FC are you using and whats your source of humidity? cuz it could probably use some more FAE too.

Thanks guys, it's basically a casing in a aluminum foil tray with the plastic lid it came with. There are 8 holes, about 1" for each of the them. I've decided too put the polyfil back in the holes, hope they don't affect the mushrooms growing into them. Haha, they seem to like the polyfil. By the way, the mycelium is starting to eat at the aluminum, as my silly ass didn't use a plastic liner for this tray. Should I just put some good ole' duct tape to fix these holes?

The RH is around 75-77%, obviously that is bad. I've been fanning/misting about two times a day, I guess I need to move it up to 3-5 times daily? I usually fan for 10 seconds, mist the casing, fan for 10 more seconds and then mist around the plastic lid.

I'm happy to hear none of you are seeing cobweb mold, and believe it to be mycelium. I'm quite happy psilocyban likes to be made into a tea, as I wouldn't like looking at these shrooms. However, I love all the fruits of my labor and I'm sure I'll be able to just peel/cut away the excess mycelium growing up the stem.

Now, I'm planning to take a spore print or two of the largest fruits, hoping that I can possibly get some uniformity in my next project as the first flush was mostly smaller fruits with hollow stems. But that was to be expected out of the Puerto Rican genetics, especially with just a coir casing. Does this sound like a good idea to you guys?  :crazy2:

Wouldn't trust that the hygrometer your using is properly reading humidity.  What kind of hygrometer are you using and where did you source it from?

You have a case of "Fuzzy Feet".  Fuzzy Feet is a sign of high co2 levels (during fruiting) due to a lack of exchanging fresh air.  Problem with Fuzzy Feet is that contamination USUALLY isn't far behind.

Fan more and don't mist every time you fan.  Give some of that moisture a chance to evaporate before misting.

I've always made sure I keep a few prints after a flush, it's a great way to ensure that you won't have to buy more sporeprints/syringes.
I keep a little card collector binder and slide em in the sleeves with a date and label.
I also recommend switching your source of humidity, mist/fan should be supplemental.
One of the FC I use for smaller containers of bulk is a large plastic Tupperware (~4'X3'X4') filled with perlite (cheap:dancer:)
I just set my container in it. This shows you how to make one in the The 3rd Segment of RR's video
