You feel sorry for people that they take drugs?

I thought I clarified that; I meant I feel sorry for ADDICTS who are still using and can't seem to be able to quit. if its not a problem for you; then, as said, my hats are off to you,
but, if you're like me, and you're powerless over over drugs and they control your life, then yes, I DO feel sorry for you b/c I've been there, and its no way to live.
but do I hate drugs and think nobody should use them? absolutely not... I just know that I can't use them (Successfully)

Sober, no. Non-addict, yes. I keep all of my drug use within reasonable amounts. Weed and booze/liquor once or twice a month and shrooms whenever I find enough to fuel a fun night for me and a few close friends.
Also weighing in on the addiction is a disease argument... I hate when people use that line. In reality it does, by definition, qualify as a disease; but it's a massive nuisance that people have been told this. Now instead of taking responsibility for their behavior, people just cry foul and say, "I HAZ A DIZEEZ!" I used to eat Adderall and Dexedrine like fucking candy, and lo and behold I got addicted, which was completely my fault. Then I quit and ended up wasting a week in bed being insanely depressed, and I hate pussies who wallow in their own pity, but there I was doing exactly that. So I have absolutely no sympathy for addicts. BUT... On the "it is a disease" side of the fence, the person who said they choose to have the disease, while I can see his stance on the issue, is wrong. They made the decisions leading up to becoming an addict, but they didn't choose to ultimately become an addict. Saying that is the equivalent of saying that a smoker chooses cancer, those who worked in the coal mines chose to get "black lung," or an office worker, computer programmer, or guitarist chooses carpal tunnel syndrome. Sure they made the decisions leading up to their disease, and had full knowledge that the disease was a possible consequence of their actions, but they didn't choose the disease. They can't blame anyone for their condition since it's their own fault, but that doesn't mean they aren't diseased.
TL;DR - It is a disease, but that doesn't mean you get to use that fact as a cop out. Quit being a douche and a pain the ass to those around you and be liable for what you do.

Well it looks like it does qualify as a disease under the dictionary term, but when someone says disease you think something that is curable. The genetics that make us susceptible to addiction is incurable, it will always be embedded into our DNA. We are all addicts in our own right, as it is part of being human. It is a genetic disposition that we are all at risk of succumbing to.
Were you referring to me as the poster who said that an addict chooses to be one? If you interpreted my message as such, you misunderstood me.

Mostly sober these days. I can't smoke due to probation, which is terrible. As for alcohol, I went 2 months without a drink but I've broken that streak lately. However going from binge drinking every weekend to having 2-4 beers once or twice a month is a massive improvement for me. God damn I wanna smoke weed though

I'm not using it as a cop out in any way shape or form. I'm merely explaining my actions as a result of addiction. True, it was my choice to use drugs and drink alcohol and I accept full responsibility for that. But at the same time, my addictive tendencies didn't allow me to have a choice in the matter. I didn't realize I had a choice not to use those drugs or drink that alcohol. I was so caught up in the addiction that I just kept going and going. I thought I was going to be dead before I was 30.
Now I realize I have a choice. I chose not to self destruct any more. And hopefully that choice will continue until I die. I have a lot of work to do on myself to keep myself sober. I spent 10 years tamping down my feelings with drugs because I didn't know how to deal with them. I'm just now figuring out how to do that. It's an ongoing process, one that I am completely willing to give my best effort.
But at the same time I'm just one drink or drug away from going right back out there and killing myself with substances.

I've been away on vacation for like three days now and haven't smoked any weed or done any drugs for that matter.
 I miss my weed.

40 days clean from heroin here. I should probably stop drinking as much as I do too but the extent to which alcohol is embedded in our culture and the ease at which partaking it leads to picking up women makes it difficult indeed.
