Specific questions for those of you who yield HIGH amounts with PF tek...
    #14736402 - 07/08/11 01:40 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

So, you've obviously mastered the PF tek. I'm talking about people who yield at least 2-3 DRY ounces using several cakes, like, 10 or more cakes. If you never use that many cakes but are still able to get 1/4 oz dry from each cake, then these questions are for you. I have some specific questions for all of you because obviously, you're doing SOMETHING better than what all us noobs are not doing. So here goes, and please make sure you answer ALL questions:

1. What are the size dimensions of your sgfc? Width, length, and height. Try to make your answers in inches but if you're only familiar with metrics, use whatever measurement you're familiar with.

2. Is your perlite fine, medium, or coarse? How many inches do you use on the bottom of sgfc?

3. Are you using multispore? If not, how are you using your spores? Are YOU able to yield high amounts using multispore EVER?

4. How long after full colonization do you birth?

5. How long do you dunk for?

6. Are you using fine, medium, or coarse verm? Answer for both what you use in your substrate (fine, med, coarse) and also for rolling (fine, med, coarse).

7. Do you roll for all flushes or only the 1st? When you roll, are you pressing the verm onto the mycelium or just lightly rolling it?

8. Do you ever use something other than brf such as rice bran or something? What is the difference that you notice?

9. How often do you fan and mist (or how frequently are you doing so)? HOW MUCH SPECIFICALLY are you misting each time (how many pumps do you spray?)? Do you change the frequency depending on temperature of your grow room or other parameters? If so, please explain specifically.

10. Do you use gypsum and/or watered down coffee in your substrate? Do you notice a difference with/without?

11. What is your lighting regime? (12/12, 16/8, etc.)

12. RH of your grow room? If it's different each time you start a new grow, what are the differences, if any, in your yields?

13. Ranges of RH INSIDE of your sgfc? Does it fluctuate or stay relatively the same throughout the entire grow?

14. Temperature of your grow room? If it's different each time you grow (due to seasons and what not), what are the differences, if any, in your yields?

15. What size and specific type of jars do you use? (wide mouthed or tall, 1/2 pint or otherwise?) and if you've used more than one type of jar, what other type was it and did you notice a difference? What was the difference?

16. Any other specific secrets/parameters/techniques you want to share, please do so.

Thank you for your time. Also, please post some pictures if you have any.

The reason I'm asking is because a lot of people say that pf tek sucks, but those who have mastered it state that they don't know what the other people are talking about. Hopefully this will shed some insight into people who want to master the pf tek like me and just don't have time/funds/space/other personal reasons to do bulk grows.

Also, all those time lapse videos on youtube of cubensis are such a TEASE to all us noobs!! Again, you pros are obviously doing something that we noobs are not! lol!

Again, thanks for your time. And RR, I expect you to answer by the time this thread dies! lol!

idk if leopardman is accepting cultivation PMs or not.

but he is by far the best cake grower here.
(in my opinion)

its unlikely anyone would get 2-3 dry ounces from a cake. More like 16-24 cakes

Oh, of course dude! I changed the OP to account for the fact that you would probably need to use at least 10 or more cakes.

But I did see from leopardman, that ONE cake yielded 90 wet grams. That's a little more than a 1/4 oz dry. 12 cakes would yield 3 ounces easily, if everything is uniform.

search for a post entitled

HOW LM MAKES HIS CAKES

if you havent seen that one already its got tons of good info about the finesse of cakes.

I already read that one. Thanks. I want to see the SPECIFICS of the grow though. Answers should be pretty uniform, and if not, they've gotta be doing something MAGIC in order to be doing what they're doing.

The sgfc in that thread (how lm makes his cakes) looks like it's the same size as mine...54 quart tub.

1. What are the size dimensions of your sgfc? Width, length, and height. Try to make your answers in inches but if you're only familiar with metrics, use whatever measurement you're familiar with.
N/A

2. Is your perlite fine, medium, or coarse? How many inches do you use on the bottom of sgfc?
perlite from Lowe's, miracle gro brand
3. Are you using multispore? If not, how are you using your spores? Are YOU able to yield high amounts using multispore EVER?
genetic isolates are not needed to get good, and or uniform yields
4. How long after full colonization do you birth?
5-10 days, LM even puts a heatbomb near his jars during the consolidation period to dry them out. hydration fluctuations are AMAZING pinning triggers
5. How long do you dunk for?
~20 hours
6. Are you using fine, medium, or coarse verm? Answer for both what you use in your substrate (fine, med, coarse) and also for rolling (fine, med, coarse). fine and fine

7. Do you roll for all flushes or only the 1st? When you roll, are you pressing the verm onto the mycelium or just lightly rolling it?
only first flush, rinse substrate before rolling, set into pile of verm, roll about, sprinkle some on top if its not sticking well
8. Do you ever use something other than brf such as rice bran or something? What is the difference that you notice?
i have not, some say rice bran outperforms BRF, differences are negligible
9. How often do you fan and mist (or how frequently are you doing so)? HOW MUCH SPECIFICALLY are you misting each time (how many pumps do you spray?)? Do you change the frequency depending on temperature of your grow room or other parameters? If so, please explain specifically.
fanning and misting are not specific, fan whenever you mist, mist to replace moisture lost due to fruitbody production and humidity production
10. Do you use gypsum and/or watered down coffee in your substrate? Do you notice a difference with/without?
gypsum and coffee will both produce NOTICEABLE results
11. What is your lighting regime? (12/12, 16/8, etc.)
12/12
12. RH of your grow room? If it's different each time you start a new grow, what are the differences, if any, in your yields?
i dont test for variables like these
13. Ranges of RH INSIDE of your sgfc? Does it fluctuate or stay relatively the same throughout the entire grow?
i've never owned a hygrometer
14. Temperature of your grow room? If it's different each time you grow (due to seasons and what not), what are the differences, if any, in your yields?
room temp. yields seem not to be affected by temp, moreso time and fruitbody density, overall dry weight seems to be more related to amount and type of substrate
15. What size and specific type of jars do you use? (wide mouthed or tall, 1/2 pint or otherwise?) and if you've used more than one type of jar, what other type was it and did you notice a difference? What was the difference?
widemouth half pint, ive tried pints and tall halfpints, didnt like either
16. Any other specific secrets/parameters/techniques you want to share, please do so.

tried my best.

i think a lot of your questions are simply irrelevant, and as you grow as a cultivator, i think you'll agree.

Really? Shit dude! Is all the magic REALLY within leopardman's tek for heat shocking?

I need to know the secret!!! I WILL master the pf tek!!

oh people were getting mad yields from cakes pre heatshock tek.
but drying out substrates then rehydrating is an incredibly efficient way of coaxing massive flushes.

you'll see this with outdoor beds, manmade or natural.

after a few days of hot and dry, one single rain will turn it into mushroom paradise

kOOlaid already answered your questions (thanks man :super:). In time you will realize that things like substrate composition, fine or coarse verm, fine or medium perlite, how many pumps etc. are irrelevant.
If you want 9+ grams dry off a single flush off 1 cake, focus on FAE and water. I suggest you to read again my thread because there are indeed specific answers to your questions.
Oh and I am not a master. RR, Workman and Stonesun are masters. I am a hobbyist.

Wow, I guess I AM a little misguided. Thanks. I'll make sure to read over that thread again and also read peoples' responses in it.
