Can I Rinse My Fresh Mushrooms Off?

Hey guys, searched around and all I could find was people asking if it was OK to rinse before storing. I just picked some fresh mushrooms yesterday and stored them in the fridge. I'm going to eat them in about an hour, but these mushrooms grew horizontal and picked-up a fair amount of perlite. I'm not rinsing + storing, I'm just gonna rinse then eat. This wouldn't be a problem right? Any specific things I should or should not do while washing them off? Thanks guys.

I wouldn't recommend washing fresh fruits off with water, ever. They'll get soggy & nasty.
Just dry them in a dehydrator until cracker dry & brush them off w/ an old toothbrush or your hands.
or just brush the perlite off w/ your hand while they're still wet.

a toothbrush works wonders.
they even sell mushroom brushes at most grocery stores.
the mushrooms you are eating are in fact mushrooms, just like the ones you buy from the store

no but seriously. mushrooms do u make you slightly more gay.
water will promote oxidation (blue bruising) which will lead to loss in potency.

after picking your greatest enemy is O2, which is why we try to dehydrate them as quickly as possible w/ heat + air movement.
Also, there are many types of poisonous (that'll kill you) that blue when picked.

Just dust the perlite off with your fingers or a brush.

O2 is pretty stable. H20 is polar and oxidation will happen more readily with water
too add: I believe psilocin is the intermediate getting oxidized not psilocybin. (yes that means a P-O bond must be broken first to create an hydroxyl group that is then oxidized)

oxidation will happen w/ H2O but O2 is the major enemy of oxidation.
Besides, IDK why anyone would want to introduce more moisture to something that is 90% water.
Just a bad idea in general.
For greatest potency, eat as picked, but how many of us would eat the equivalent of 9oz dry? Or fit that in our stomachs?
Not any of us.
That's why we dehydrate to store them for longer.

the idea is to dry them (no more water=no more oxidation) you dont see people storing mushrooms with oxygen scrubbers. its because the key to oxidation is water. If you forgot there is always water in the air not to mention inside (80-90% by mass) of mushrooms as well.

there is no psilocin present in a dried mushroom that you eat.
Your body converts psilocybin to psilocin upon digestion.
Dried mushrooms will still oxidize & reduce in potency over time through O2 exposure.
We can continue this discussion via , but I'm done w/ it as it's not really on topic nor helping the OP.

I just want to make sure that the OP doesn't get the wrong idea. H20 is the cause of oxidation. You will never get your mushrooms to "completely dry"/0% water content. Water is the only enemy with mushroom psilocybin breakdown. once the psilocin is revealed and oxidized that molecule will be denatured. Yes it involves an oxygen "bond" but saying that oxygen gas is what causes oxidation is rubbish.
Water is the biggest enemy of oxidation

usually not, that intermediate stage will usually be instantly oxidized (outside the body) after water has changed psilocybin to that stage
