Amanita Jacksonii? NEED ID. Can I eat?
    #14730837 - 07/07/11 11:53 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Found this along side a dirt road. Don't think it's one of the deadly cousins. It smells quite potent (at least in the specimen that's partially dryed, all the way open up.) What do you think based on pics? (NOTE: fourth picture is a FAR smaller specimen. The large one is about the size of my hand-- but it shows how it looks with a spread cap.)

It's definitely a member of section Caesareae. I'm not experienced with eating Amanitas, but I'd think if you found some younger specimens or just quickly dunked them in ice water to remove the bugs, I'd say they're edible.

Please wait for someone more experienced to chime in before you do anything, please. I'd much appreciates.

I'd say so too!
