Drying with a fan=Potency loss?

Hey guys, I currently have my shrooms infront of a fan and theyve taken two days so far but theyre mostly dry. I was just wondering though, how does drying them not make them lose potentcy? If one of the chemicals breaks down and the shroom is shriviling up shouldnt that make them significantly less potent?

It doesn't lose potency as much as give a different trip, but even then it's not remarkably different

Drying stabilizes the compounds. The faster you dry it, the less actives you're losing to oxidation. Drying them slowly over the course of two days is not ideal. You can't get them completely dry with just a fan btw unless the humidity is super low.
Leaving them less than cracker dry will cause them to slowly degrade over time.

I laid mine out on the floor, no fan and let dry till cracker. I have had some that laid for months to a year in the open and still kicked my ass. I did not see any difference than fresh. I usually eat a 1/4 and see god.

You want to get them dry as fast as you can otherwise you risk letting them rot etc. Invest in a food dehydrator as you can get them cracker dry fast!

If your looking for a suitable method of drying beyond fans then check out this post I wrote up on drying, it's not perfect but it may give you some ideas and save you some money. Damn do I feel like an idiot for going out and buying some expensive nesco dehydrator that can barely fit any significant amount of mushrooms when I could have easily improvised multiple bulk dehydrators out of household items

What if they are barely wet for like 3 days? Will that cause them to rot? I want to use them saturday (todays thursday) will they last that long?

If thats your plan keep them in cold storage at the least, if its only 3 days they should pull through. Keep them in a paper bag or something

They do lose potency in drying. However, the potency they lose is nothing compared to the loss of 90% of the mass of the mushroom.
So, you might lose 10% potency, but you're losing 90% of the mass, which leaves you with a much more concentrated product. That way you only have to take 3.5 grams dry instead of 35 grams wet.
The potency they lose is from degredation of psilocin. Psilocybin on the other hand is practically unaffected by drying.
