Mycelium to mycelium..?

Okay.. so I get that you can start mycelium growth from a spore syringe or from spores/agar in a dish etc.. Is there any reason not to grow mycelium from existing mycelium? Can you do that? Like lets say I colonize 5 jars from a single syringe, but when they're fully colonized instead of growing shrooms from them I break them up and put 1/5th or something of each jar into a new sterilized substrate jar? Assuming theres no contams or anything will this work? (Thus giving me 5x as many jars as previous) And then contiuning the process on from there or what have you in a similar situation? For every 5 jars break up one jar and make 5 more jars or what have you?

You can spawn them to bulk rather than birth them in a sgfc. There's plenty of tek's here on the website you could use. But if you're asking if you can infinitely use your mycelium then I really don't think so.
EDIT: If we're talking about brf cakes listen to the guy below. I'm just a noob.

What you are describing is just grain to grain transfers, and this is an excellent way to make new jars of grains. Hard to do in a glove box, so it's better to do this with a flow hood.

Jesus Christ, read the Faq. I'm sorry to give you that kind of an answer, but this has been covered thousands of times here, and there are more than a dozen teks on the subject.
Anyway, yes, you can. Most do it with grain. When you see someone say G2G on here, they mean grain to grain transfer. I haven't heard of it being done with cakes, but it won't work because you'll breach your vermiculite layer. There are a few teks regarding using cakes to make more spawn if you search. The best thing to do is just finish your grow and use some of your own spores.
I mean no disrespect by saying this, but if you didn't know whether or not you could do this you will not succeed when you try and end up wasting good spawn.

Senescence in isolates occurs over many transfers, but even then it's done all the time.

This is what we do with "grain to grain transfers".
Its also probably the fastest method of expanding your myc. Doesn't work so good with cakes. But works damn good with grain jars. Its really easy to end up with way too much grain spawn in a month or two.
One grain jar can become ten, and each of those become ten more....and.....well you see how fst things go with that kind of math going on.
Its not infinite however. Eventually you will run up against senescence.

I will say that you have lots of searching and reading to do before you even think about doing G2G. Just read everything you can, and eventually with practice, things will start to stick. This site has an answer to almost any question you could think of just by using the search.

Thanks so much for this everyone. I guess maybe this is a good reason to finally invest in a pressure cooker and start doing grain instead of brown rice flower/verm?
I'd never even heard of senescence before. Learn something new every day, newbie says thanks!
