Less surface area could equate to less humidity being created. I'm pretty sure this is the case anyway. If you have a good hygrometer just test it out. Personally I'm going to be buying a big bag soon from a grow store in town but in a rush when I needed it I found some at Lowe's in the garden section in a smaller 8 quart bag. Miracle gro brand and so far it's working just fine.

Air needs to circulate through the empty space between the perlite. How coarse are you talking?

He's calling it powdered perlite. How coarse does that sound?

He's asking if he should powder it. You should read the post.

I bought size #4, which is "half inch minus"... I would have preferred size #3 (one size smaller)... I would suggest something larger than your SGFC holes... But I'm just a noob

Not sure how you get that out of his wording. Maybe it's just me but it seems like he already has powdered perlite and is worried about it now.
Anyways, on that website you linked the fox farms chunky perlite would of been a much better choice.

"was" or "is" I doubt he's equipped to have powdered the requisite amount of perlite for any average sized SGFC.

sorry about all that... i have no intention of powdering my perlite XD It seems to powdery to be considered coarse. however it does say it. I have alreayd bought the big ass bag. i guess im stuck with it. So all in all bigger perlite is better? then why does it say coarse?

You need to rinse the powder off in a colander, at the same time moistening your perlite, prior to introducing it to your SGFC.
