I would pick em as they come. When the ones around it mature enough to pick then you can pluck the more mature one. Spores don't harm anything at all, they're just messy if you have uncased material and a large yield. (charcoal looking powdery coating all over) Harmless though. They are definitely cubes too, you probably won't find out which strain exactly because "a cube is a cube" and they're all about the same yield and potency. If you haven't already done so, I'd definitely contact your supplier and notify them that you got cubes instead of Mexicana.

This may have been mentioned, but make sure that you did not mistakenly order "Mexicube"

They are a nice species though...
Good luck,

I'd double check your receipt. Nice H2O2 bottles I love how mushrooms will grow in just about anything I've been experimenting on the side with Pink Buffalo, by growing in any random container i can find. IE: coca cola bottle, salt shakers, dead car speaker, and an empty m&m dispenser.

Right.
I have gotten into the habit of checking out my huge-and-souless corporation's recycling areas. Our people are tossing out perfectly usable plastic-ware all the time.
(sorry, off topic)

nice pic jd. I ordered it online and have a receipt and this was definitely sold as psilocybe mexicana strain A! although im pretty sure they labelled it wrong and it is most likely mexican cubensis grrrrrr, ive contacted the supplier and hopefully will get an apology if they want my future business.
cool ill wait for them to mature a little more, don't think they want to get much bigger but glad it has given a few nice fruits for my labour :P
on a positive note the mexicana a sclerotia that i bought and had no effect on me, i left a few in a paper envelope in the fridge, and same with some atlantis, and the stones have lots of white mycelium grown on the outside which looks promising.
I have some of the mexican sclerotia on agar and a couple of liquid cultures, so looks like i've finally got sum mexicana mycelium on the go Thanks for all the comments, I shall proberbly post a pic of the final fruits harvested.

why certainly pablo ...

i had put some sections of the sclerotia on agar plates , at the time of doing so i hadn't noticed any obviously growth about a week later when i looked at the sclerotia stored in the fridge in envelope they had what appears to be mycelium growing on them cant be sure but im guessing this is the case. this made me happy
i wanted just to bung the stone whole into the liquid culture, but it wont be sterile on the outside of the stone so I'll just be patient, i dont have any peroxide either or i would have been tempted to do a little dunk in that and then bung the whole stone on agar or lc. i think the growth would have spread quickly

Patience is a virtue, give it some time. Waiting with a smaller sample is better than risking contamination. Even after dunking in H2O2 you take chances of contam. Plus, alot of H2O2 won't necessarily promote mycelium growth. So just hold on and give it some time.
