I had to put a 80% colonized bag of rye in my fridge for a couple of hrs cause power had gone out here and outside temps get to 108. When i took it out the very top layer of rye that wasn't colonized yet looked like dried schriveled rasins and is colonizing super slow now and also getting pins. Should i brush off this top layer before spawning to compost?

Oh man that sounds awful. I'd say yes to brushing that off, rye that has yet to be colonized can be a contaminant trap when put into substrate. I'm sure you see what happened, but to assess, your grain dried out and that triggered pinning.

Sage helping me out again thanks! As for the layer that dried out its just the very very top layer of single berries that dried so it should be easy to take em off. And well now i know not to put uncolinized rye in a fridge.

You're very welcome. RR used to advise not to put anything that's colonizing in the fridge, and the reason being, that this is a sub-tropic species we're dealing with and any kind of introduction to those temps is harmful. Of course this exclude the preservation of germinated medium (ex: agar, LC, etc.) but not cakes, and not spawn. While it still may be viable, in no way is it reliable. Plus fridges used for food are extremely dirty.
I hope I don't have my facts mixed up. Any clarification is welcome.
